@xero what's 'd' ?

EDIT: nvm thanks for fixing it

@wolf480pl a secret integer. both sides of the exchange generate them the same way. but with different values
@xero
but it doesn't appear anywhere else, and later the shared secret is g^(ab) not g^(db)

@wolf480pl Alice and Bob agree on a prime number, p, and a base, g, in advance. For our example, let's assume that p=23 and g=5.

Alice chooses a secret integer a whose value is 6 and computes A = g^a mod p. In this example, A has the value of 8.

Bob chooses a secret integer b whose value is 15 and computes B = g^b mod p. In this example, B has the value of 19.

Alice sends A to Bob and Bob sends B to Alice.

To obtain the shared secret, Alice computes s = B^a mod p. In this example, Alice obtains the value of s=2

To obtain the shared secret, Bob computes s = A^b mod p. In this example, Bob obtains the value of s=2.

The algorithm is secure because the values of a and b, which are required to derive s are not transmitted across the wire at all.

@xero I know how Diffie-Hellmann works.

I was pointing out inconsistent use of variable names

@wolf480pl sorry my meme is not up to standards. was just trying to be funny and make people smile ✌️
@xero sorry for being pedantic... it's a very good meme, which is why I paid attention to it in the first place.
@wolf480pl no worries. and likewise my apologies for assuming you were quizzing me about the value of 'd'.
@xero it's not a real "a", just a "d" with the stem hidden behind a yellow square, but I hope it's close enough
@wolf480pl fixed ty ✌️😆
@xero Known as “Best Practice” west of the Rockies

@jonathankoren @xero

Thank you... I literally looked at the thread only to look for a "Best Foods" reference.

Funny thing is this is not even the first time someone has done this
@ellietheyeen @xero I’ve always thought this.
@ellietheyeen @xero and that one's not even AI slop!
@xero I wish I knew what this meant so I can laugh at the joke
@xero My friends Alice and Bob really like this stuff.
@cholling @xero I hear Eve really hates it, though.
@xero thank you for making this I think it every time
@xero A jar of mayonnaise labeled "Diffie Hellman's Key Exchange (est.1976)" with a diagram describing how the DH key exchange works. "Net weight 32oz (946 mL)"

@[email protected] @mttaggart slop >:c
probably had https://image1.slideserve.com/2346009/diffie-hellman-key-exchange-n.jpg in it's training set

edit: re-drafting as public bc no one's said it explictly yet, am sad i'm seeing it not mad u "made" it: will curate my follows and/or block u (OP) as needed (usually these things have just slipped thru c:)

@antlers cool dude, you do you. i was just trying to make someone smile. sorry the diagram of the algorithm isn't perfect ✌️

@[email protected]
> sorry my meme is not up to standards

Deja vu >u< read that on a meme sub this morning, mod said "well, we held a community vote..." -- things are different here of course, we interact with different spheres: I can expect not to see genAI assets, you can do you, and if it had been obvious (disclosure, maybe?) I just wouldn't see it c:

My beef is just with that, the permeable boundary of spheres with different social norms, which (bc we can't always be vigilant) effectively operates on disclosure. But between us, the polorizing nature of genAI assets, and hence their widespread distain, is well-known. The joke *is* funny, it *is* good to do quick things to try to make people smile -- but there were quick ways to do it that wouldn't have made anyone frown either.

@antlers I don't frequent any meme subs so I don't know what moderator or posts you speak of.

but as far as generated art goes, I tell the computer to do a thing and it does. whether that's with my mouse in photoshop, my keyboard in a text editor. a prompt in a chat box. either way, if I'm not physically painting it or drawing it, it's generated by the computer. how much of that influence is me and how much of that influence is the machine is variable depending on a lot of factors.

in this case it was like a passing joke I wanted to make. I didn't have the time nor desire to make something in "more manually" in design software anyhow at that moment. it was just supposed to be funny.

@antlers another example I always use is my friend who is a fantastic writer but was never been able to gain any traction with her work. she tried commissioning traditional artists. but no one was really interested in doing the amount of animation she needed for the amount of money she had. but as soon as she started generating visuals to go along with her writing, she gets millions of people hearing her stories finally. she spends an insane amount of times generating prompt after prompt until the visuals exactly match what she's looking for. I don't consider that slop in the slightest. The junk that I made on the other hand I will agree with. but I don't agree that all generated art is ✌️

> I don't frequent any meme subs so I don't know what moderator or posts you speak of.

I don't usually either, and in fact sunk some time into finding it and couldn't be more specific (super healthy behavior ik >u<)

> if I'm not physically painting it or drawing it, it's generated by the computer. how much of that influences me and how much of that influence is the machine is variable depending on a lot of factors.

How much of that influence normalizes implicit endorsement of the AI industry, or how much is stolen from uncredited sources never given the opportunity to consent, depends on exactly one factor.

I'm actually sympathetic, I get it's more work to sketch it on printer paper, to cut and paste it in Canva, GIMP, or MS-Paint -- I've got a bunch of funny ideas in the "someday" pile myself, just a little too much work to do right now but not *quite* funny enough to put aside the ethical implications of my actions or compromise the quality of my work for :c

@antlers by virtue of my job role, for the last... idk 6 months or so ive been on and off tasked with investigating all these AI tools that different teams wanted to use and what their security implications and any possible mitigations would be, regardless of my personal feelings about them. That's where the market is going, so being a security practitioner it's my job to follow all the other sheep and see what I can break along the way
@antlers my life mentally is I'm ready to use whatever tool is available for me to get the job done. doesn't have to be the best one. just got to get shit done. if I don't fix it no one else will and it will just be broken. it's for me, AI is just another tool like anything else. i look up programming questions on stack overflow & see just as many wrong answers as some bot gives me in a chat box. no matter what, you always have to do your own research on anything ya read.
@xero I know them both...they are not much like mayo. Lol

@xero

Shelf life: 50 years

@argv_minus_one @xero
Actually, that depends on net weight (which is shown wrong here). Your answer may be right for net weight 2048 bits.
@xero so, this, but with pegs on it so i can hang it by the door
@xero
Clearly fake because it’s “32 fl oz” and not 31 due to the magic displacement bubble
*laughs*
*sobs*
@xero That's, a way to look at it.
@xero posting this in my work group chat prompted the phrase "Elliptic Curve Mayonnaise"
@xero @soatok Is mayonnaise secure E2EE ?

@Puffin @xero @soatok

I think mayo, when used properly, is E2EC - edge to edge condiment.

@xero
In parts of the country, you have to substitute Diffie Best Foods.
@xero slop slop slop.

@xero

"Bring out the best ..." 🤮

Encryption makes you vomit?

@xero Best served with some Caesar's Cipher …
@xero Shouldn't it be g^a mod p first?
Or as they call it on Mexico, Diffie-McCornick
@xero I assume you need to spread it thoroughly on both slices so that a MITM (meat in the middle) attack is unable to absorb any bread crumbs.
@EricLasota meat in the middle attacks. im dying 😆
Hellman's mayo, but it's been edited to say "Diffie Hellmann's Key Exchange" with a diagram of the key exchange protocol on it. It still says "Net Wt 32 oz (946 ml)".

@xero

Called Best key exchange west of the Rockies

@xero Known as Diffie-Best West of the Rockies.
