This feature has been a long time coming because we wanted to take the time to do it right. Part of that process was sharing our work and getting feedback along the way.

We wanted to share a special thanks with the community members who were instrumental in the design of quote posts.

Quote functionality needs to be moved from the Boost button to the Reply button. That was a UI/UX decision that's added unnecessary friction to the simplest form of engagement on Mastodon.
@Perrin42 @MastodonEngineering I think that's a good idea, but might be annoying when writing threads.
A separate button should work in the web UI without making the buttons too close to each other, for mobile apps there might be a horizontal space issue there. Would be interesting to hear from somebody with limited mobility in their hands on that one.

Masto for Android closes when I try to use it
Personally, I find the combined "Boost or quote" icon button very inconvenient and upsetting, even after a while, desperately trying to get used to it; a separate Quote icon would have been the best option, simple and not breaking any previous behavior...
BTW, when a post displays images, clicking on one of them brings a expanded image, and a bottom row of buttons is still available where the Boost icon doesn't propose the Quote feature: inconsistent but convenient then!
I very much dislike the requirement now to have to click twice if I just want to boost. I will just boost a lot less if that doesn't change. May move instances. I hope this doesn't get adopted by any other instance because it is annoying. If you can fix this, great.
