"Whoever forbids Antifa, wants fascism! Make Antifa Great Again!" - Banner held by Bayern Munich fans on Friday, right behind the goal, so guaranteed to be in the broadcast worldwide.

@Voline Unluckily, large parts of the German left do not see football fans as a possible ally. You have to remember that Ulras helped bringing the Arabian spring to the streets and protested against Erdogan.

We are not in the 80s and 90s anymore with their Hooliganism.

@kontrollierterWahnwitz @Voline I disagree. It wholly depends on the fans themselves. St. Pauli for example is a club whose fans and ultras are staunch anti-fascists and that is noticed by the political left in Germany.
The problem lies more in the perception of „ultras“ in general. Politicians won’t touch that, because they don’t want to be associated with „hooligans“ and other „violent“ football fans.
And in the general population, that picture still remains.

@kontrollierterWahnwitz @Voline

In the city I live in hooliganism is still strong and ultra groups are decididly on the far right and proud if it. I hope its different elsewhere.

@kontrollierterWahnwitz @Voline
Also - which other large social group takes a stand this loud and clear ? Where is the "Aufschrei" ?

Cannot stand their club at all - but absolutely respecting the "Schickeria" Ultragroup, not only for this statement 👏 ✊

@kontrollierterWahnwitz @Voline Depends on the club....
Best example (to my knowledge) FCSP vs Dynamo Dresden...
@kontrollierterWahnwitz @Voline uhm. Do you live in Munich? Because here, the left very much has been working with football fans for a long time - Löwenfans gegen Rechts is a well known group locally. FC Bayern fans on the whole are less political (and more drunk dumb opportunists, since it's not like they had to support a loosing team for decades), but as seen above Schickeria is not tolerating fascists in their midst, either.
Since the 90s, when nazis tried recruiting
@kontrollierterWahnwitz @Voline football fans en masse, there has been left resistance to that. But it's also a fact that football fans aren't that interested in politics aside from not being persecuted by police for their existence.
@Voline
My dad was antifa. He served in the U.S. Navy 4 years in World War II, on a destroyer (USS Coghlan) in the Pacific.

@Voline

I know there are tons of issues in Germany and the EU, but God damn, am I happy to be here versus in the US right now.

@simplyxtata Being in the US feels like being swallowed by an enormous spider.

Enjoy your sensible nations.

@Gustodon I'm a US citizen and seeing this all go down is utterly depressing. I'm trying not to give up hope but so far Europe has been very welcoming to me versus my own country.
@simplyxtata I'm glad to hear it. Well-played.
@Voline Respect to each and all of them! That's great and should be an example for all the football/soccer fans around the world

@Voline

We should not forget that there have been some very serious, presumably motivated sentences made against persons who protested against the far right.

One case is really weird. 9 years with accusations up to attempted murder, far right thugs claiming to have been seriously injured.

A wave of processes against antifaschists.

Prozesswelle gegen Antifas: „Ein klarer Versuch der Einschüchterung“

Die linke Szene kritisiert die fünfjährige Haftstrafe für die Antifaschistin Hanna S. scharf. In Kürze starten bereits zwei weitere Prozesse.

@Voline It seems that the world does not want to go quietly into that Fascist good night
@Voline
A friend in Bavaria joked we could move there from the USA because they have fewer Nazi than we do.
@Voline
Okay,
wenn das echt ist, dann ist das mit Abstand das Beste, was ich je von Bayern München-Fans gesehen und gehört habe! 🏆
