A few days ago, I went to a photographer to get new ID photos after starting my transition.
His job was simply to take the official pictures and send me on my way.
After taking the passport photos, he looked at me and asked:
âAre these your first photos as a woman?â
I smiled and said, âYes.â
He paused for a moment and said:
âThatâs not acceptable. Youâre not allowed to smile in passport photos. It canât be right that you donât smile in the first photos of your new life.â
Then he asked me to look back into the camera and smile.
He took a few more portraits, printed three large photos for me, handed them to me, and said:
âThese are your first photos as a woman. Take them. Consider these a giftâ
I nearly cried.
Sometimes people donât realize how much a small gesture can mean to someone else. đđłď¸ââ§ď¸
