FUCK THE BEES HAVE DISCOVERED BRUTALISM
@poppyhaze now i'm wondering about the metal plants from one of the Godzilla movies and if the wasps there made hives out of metal 😬

@poppyhaze

They are building Commbee Blocks now, wow

@poppyhaze did this timeline become so hard even bees started to build bunkers?

“In this age the Rose has grown
An iron cortex of her own”

— Millay, I think

@madargon @poppyhaze

@poppyhaze they are just trying to survive in this crazy world. Don't hate them for trying to live #live #bees
@proxydark13 @poppyhaze but I suppose they would die from taking concrete dust into their mandibles? No?
@megaphon There is no such thing as 'concrete dust'. Concrete is an aggregate, one component of which is cement. That's what's involved here. On its own, cement is very brittle, and wouldn't trouble something with the strength of a wasp. They can chew it, and sometimes do: Plenty of damage is caused to concrete constructions by bugs chewing through the cement holding it together.
@wesdym thank you! That makes sense.
@poppyhaze @cwebber
Excuse me while I go back to the farm and offer the mud daubers there an NEA Grant.
@poppyhaze looked up mud bee on wikipedia — there is a section on its page titled "Airplace incidents" and the mud bees have claimed at least 223 human lives
@zvava If you looked it up, then you know they're wasps, not bees. Also, they didn't kill anyone. People foolishly didn't check or clean their aircraft adequately before taking flight, and paid the price for their carelessness. If you leave shit out, Nature will get into it. Even little kids understand that, but plenty of adults think they know better, and sometimes die from their arrogance or laziness.
@poppyhaze Le Corbeesier.

@darkling @poppyhaze

criminally underrated reply.

@futurebird @darkling @poppyhaze I stayed in l'Unité last week and 100% agreed. I hope for their sake that they don't have roach problems!
@darkling @poppyhaze came here to post this, very happy to be beaten
@poppyhaze okay, it's over for us 💀😭
@poppyhaze You're lucky to have them at all. Bees have all but disappeared in Sydney Australia
@poppyhaze I hope those little bees are wearing little protective dust masks as they are being exposed to silica. (apologies, the Safety guy from work just got home and hasn't unwound yet.)
@poppyhaze CONCRETE CONCRETE CONCRETE CONCRETE CONCRETE CONCRETE
Thinking of Concrete Catalyst a great album by Beehoover...

@poppyhaze

… at last.

it begins! at last!

Fly my hymenopteran sisters!
Build! Dig! Mould nature to your will.
Now is the hour of the bee and the wasp.

Next? The epoch of The Ant.

it begins

@poppyhaze
the ephemeral works of man will fall
when rises their towers, slender tall
the dreams of man, but a pale shade
of this bold future insect-made!
@futurebird @poppyhaze They're bending *something* to their will, all right...
@poppyhaze humanity is cooked once they figure out rebar
@poppyhaze ...I wonder how well that works out. Wouldn't the pH be weird? Maybe that doesn't make a difference, though.
@varx @poppyhaze I was wondering too. Maybe they handle it fine. I mean they cleary got pretty far.
@poppyhaze @Foritus Uh-oh. I hope you have some newer running shoes that *do* fit! 😅
@poppyhaze
> "according to all known laws of architecture, there is no way a bee should be able to build"

@poppyhaze

I introduce Bertrand Goldberg’s River City as a “concrete beehive” during my Chicago Architecture Center river tour! This made my day; I’ll be sharing this with our docent listserve.

🤣

@poppyhaze Looks like something Antoni Gaudi would come up with...
@poppyhaze Love this. But they may find the material a bit difficult to work with over time!

@poppyhaze yesterday I saw two bees eating a dead bird and a couple days before that I saw two bees eating a squished caterpillar, and now today I’m learning they’re building their nests with concrete.

We should be afraid. I think they’re sick of our shit.

@poppyhaze

Really cool. Go wasps. Their larva might have some trouble getting out after metamorphasis, though. 😟

@poppyhaze As a sentence, "These are the nests that the mud bees build." is *chefs kiss*.
@poppyhaze
Looks like they're building a cheetah, starting with the snout and mouth.
@poppyhaze I like how animals are now like "screw you human. Think you're special thta you're able to build with concrete? If you keep destroying our nests because we aren't, we'll show you!"
@agowa338 Except it's not concrete, which even humans have trouble managing properly. It's just cement. It's like building a house entirely out of Elmer's glue.
@wesdym But a house built out of Elmer's glue (which I don't have comparison for as we don't have it here, but assuming it is like wood glue from the looks of it) would be quite hard to breach for most other animals...

@poppyhaze

To be totally fair I think ants would be really down with brutalism.

tiny voice "it's just so practical!"

@poppyhaze
Ok, that probably warrants a trypophobia warning...
@poppyhaze
beez and ants are original developer of brutalism ;3
@poppyhaze And so it begins...
😜
@poppyhaze can’t wait for bee social housing council flats
