Sometimes I see people who are surprised the latest iPhone is actually thicker than the one that came before. It might surprise you to hear iPhones have been getting thicker for 11 years.

With the exception of the iPhone 12 Pro, the best iPhone has been getting thicker or staying the same every year since 2014's iPhone 6.

Here's the year over year percentage change in thickness.

the iPhone 4, 5, and 6 were big years for thinning things down, but it's been a slow upward climb (minus the 12 Pro) ever since.

iPhone 17 Pro Review

@ljpuk A crime was committed, I admit it!
@matt_birchler Nothing will beat the iPhone 5/5S design. It's still the perfect phone to hold in hand.
@matt_birchler, it was about time to stop this horrendous trend 🙂. Now, can I have a mini iPhone Air? I accept the compromises.
@matt_birchler It looks like after the 12 Pro, the next *three* years offered thinner phones. Within that group, they got thicker year by year, but none of them were quite as thick as the 12 Pro and therefore all would have been a thinner option for owners of that model.
@DavidAnson True, I was just looking at the “this phone isn’t as thin as last year’s phone” specifically, but yeah, an 11 Pro owner would have gotten a thinner phone if they waited a few more years to upgrade for sure.
@matt_birchler Honestly, and within reason, I feel like weight is a bigger concern for me than thickness with the current form factor.
@matt_birchler we really need a battery revolution.
