I thought it'd be fun to share how I iterated through designs to arrive at the new suggested-speeds feature in Overcast's latest TestFlight build:

@marcoarment looks like it’s needs a form of “AppStore review” 😅😜
@marcoarment I'm curious why this would go to Reddit instead of your blog?
@ehemmete @marcoarment 👆🏻I have no interest in using Reddit instead of visiting Marco.org (via rss…)
@marcoarment Looks good. I with phone apps had this interface for adjusting speed of playback of VMs.

@marcoarment One of my common use cases is to quickly jump to 3x to speed through a variable-length intro.

This used to be simple with the slider, as you already know, but will these quick bursts of 3x end up in the suggestions? I wouldn’t listen at that speed for more than about 10-15 seconds.

@marcoarment It is a wonderful feeling to design your way out of a functional problem and still ending up with a great design.
@marcoarment can’t read this without a Reddit login, FWIW
@jason wow, they force you to use the app... what a bad experience. using old reddit should work without a login? https://old.reddit.com/r/OvercastApp/comments/1nnogjg/suggested_speeds_my_design_process/
@pzumk yeah idk I stopped using the site in any fashion after they killed Apollo
@marcoarment Love the transparency and frequent updates on Reddit and elsewhere!
@marcoarment Just looking at the 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, I got to wondering: Have you considered attaching playback rate adjustment to the camera control doodad? 😉
@ac @marcoarment I don’t believe Camera Control can be customized for non-camera apps by third parties
@marcoarment This is awesome, love the liquid glass design so far also....can you please look into Airplay bugs...app is still full of them thanks!
@marcoarment man, you can’t even open up about your design process without a bunch of reply guys complaining about how you’re using Reddit… you have my sympathies. Thanks for sharing.
@marcoarment
Re the comments about Reddit, I have posted a link to your post at https://programming.dev/post/37912403 - the Fediverse/Lemmy equivalent of a Reddit Programming UI Community, that you may want to consider going forward. 🙂

Hey @alvinashcraft - you might like to include a link to this in the Dewdrop
@marcoarment please add back the ability to seek with the “podcast sheet” (I don’t know how you call it) collapsed. This new floating pill does less, occupies more space in exchange for not much (I don’t need to keep seeing a partial episode title during playback, whereas seeking is invaluable).
