And yes — even after 2026 you’ll still be able to install #Google #apps and the #PlayStore on #GrapheneOS.

Stock #Android (certified devices)

✅Before 2026: Install #apps via Play Store, #FDroid, or #APKs (with warnings).

❌After 2026: Only apps from verified #developers can be installed. F-Droid builds and many small #FOSS apps risk being blocked. #APK sideloading restricted.

GrapheneOS (uncertified #customROM)

✅Before 2026: Apps from Play Store (sandboxed), F-Droid, and APKs all install freely.

✅After 2026: Nothing changes — Play Store sandboxed still works, F-Droid apps still work, APKs still install. No Google verification block.

@73CC Jepp, and the ones still using stock ROMs are not exactly keen or dependent on sideloading. They so far did not care/bother and they will not care in 2026. Poor fools...

@73CC Of course, there is little disincentive for Google in promoting Graphene since you are effectively telling people to keep purchasing Google hardware.

I think it would be healthier if Graphene supported some non-Google brands and showed a notice on first boot what hw features aren't present.
