I'm a black and white (mainly architecture) photographer based in Derby, UK.

@MikeHindle hi Mike and welcome! If you check out #FediTips there is a ton of useful info there. Generally my advice would be to search hashtags that you’re interested in and follow people there whose posts you like (you can always unfollow/ mute later if needed). Hope you enjoy being here!

There's a few photography hashtags that might be of interest, to help you connect with other photographers. #FensterFreitag (literally Window Friday) is the one that springs to mind first, and #SilentSunday is another where I often see fab images.

@Steffi @MikeHindle Yeah. Good point. Hashtags are the main discovery method on the Fediverse. You can follow them like you’d follow accounts.

Hi Mike!
The advice I found useful when I was new was "follow lots of people, you can always unfollow later". There's no algorithm so this is how you get to see stuff.
Also, you can follow hashtags to help find your people.

@MikeHindle Hi Mike and Welcome. You're off to a good start, I see. Perhaps worth pinning that first post? (If on the web interface, look for 3 dots bottom right of the post, click there an&d select Pin on Profile). Also, the Advanced Web Interface is much better than basic, you can have multiple columns. So I have this one for interactions, then Home, then my hashtag follow column (#BelieveInFilm OR FilmPhotography), then Notifications, then the Mastodon column which is where posts expand to.

@MikeHindle hey Mike, welcome! Love your photos and it’s great to see some local images. I’m more comfortable with music production than cameras but would like to get more into street photography. I’m in Derby too and took a few photos, such as this shiny place, in Sheffield earlier this year.
