"Please come back to the US!! I'm failing. My economy is tanking. We'll be nice again. Many people have said, 'Sir, it's such a pleasure to work in the US. We'll invest everything here!'

[Column] Imperial tyranny, Korean humiliation

This incident should prompt us in Korea to comprehensively reassess our investment projects in the US

No one observes so accurately as an observer who’s an outsider. As well as the “irrational madness” quote, there’s this: “MAGA is a backlash by white, evangelical forces seeking to return the United States to its pre-1960s civil rights era. Its core supporters are low-income, low-educated whites and evangelical Protestants. Trump has channeled the anxiety of these groups, whose status has been shaken by job losses, deepening polarization, and the surge in immigration due to globalization, and has incited their anger toward the established elite and "outsiders" (people of color, undocumented immigrants, Muslims, etc.).”

And this, with wider applicability: “Declining industries are destined to be passed on to developing countries over time. Even in our case, reviving a declining industry is difficult. The situation is even more dire in the United States, where production costs are at least 30% higher than ours and the industrial ecosystem has collapsed due to over 20 years of manufacturing hollowing out. Trump is dreaming of using his imperial power to mobilize allies to reverse this trend. To make matters worse, if the empire treats allied workers, who are willing to help, as if they were vassal slaves, then nothing will work. The United States is now shooting itself in the foot with foolishness.”

They've got a few points, don't they. And they don't sugar coat it. Why would they, after being treated like slaves?

But a few folks over here are essentially screaming the very same things out in much more detail and with lots of historical background - into a void that seems unwilling to even listen, less so acknowledge what's *really* going on. Fascism? Nah! Gavin Newsom even demanded to “continue his work“ when that fascist died:

The best way to honor Charlie's memory is to continue his work: engage with each other, across ideology, through spirited discourse. In a democracy, ideas are tested through words and good-faith debate — never through violence.
