Yeah, ‘once bitten, twice shy’ as they say. You only get one chance. Putin screwed it up. Once bitten, twice shy.

Neat facts & personal story leading to GREAT question:
“ More than a million jobs are in the green economy - I have one in domestic retrofit.

“Why would a country seek to destroy a sector worth £100 billion that improves all our lives? ”

I wish we would do more of this: sheet home the name & shame & blame - and costs - to companies like 3M knowingly doing the wrong thing, & leaving their crap & consequences for others to clean up.

Baby steps, the first fine; gotta start somewhere… 🤔
next steps could include your suggested “ensure each single package from China must go through full custom inspections AND the receiver has to pay the effort, that would be much more efficient”. 😆

Strange research that cites papers that don’t exist or papers that don’t contribute. 😐 Seems like a giant waste of time. Why is it rewarded at all. [I guess this is a rhetorical question; maybe a better question is: why do ‘research’ if this is all it is? I.e. where is the drive to fake it or do this fake research coming from?] 🤔

Good call: where are our heroes? 🤔
“The failure of Australia and Western governments to hold Israel to account enabled the abuse of Gaza flotilla detainees, Jerusalem Peace Prize recipient Stuart Rees argues.
If bullies notice that no one intervenes to stop their behaviour, they may interpret such non-intervention as permission to continue bullying.”🧟‍♂️

The other thing I got out of Noah Hawley’s elegantly written piece was that the question he most heard was “Why am I here?”. Not “Why was I invited?”, not “Why did I accept?”, but “Why am I here?”. I thought that was… interesting.

This resonated: “Decades of research in developmental psychology have shown that moral reasoning develops through consequences—not punishment, necessarily, but experiencing the effects of your actions on others, receiving honest feedback, having to accommodate reality as it actually is rather than as you wish it to be. It’s not that the wealthy become evil; it’s that their environment stops teaching them the things that nonwealthy people are forced to learn simply by living in a world that pushes back.”
Because I’m a big fan of reconnecting consequences to causes, also called join the dots.

It’s a great question & never discussed enough.! 🙏🏻
There are dots but no one around long enough to join them… Short-termism. A few years ago all the big LICs (Listed Investment Companies) in Australia were pointing out that as long-term investors they were there to grow value - not short-term gains. They were quite miffed to be treated the same as short term profit takers. It’s a different mindset to think ahead ten years vs next quarter. As @Salvo points out in a neat real world example down thread.

Good example of short-termism - thanks for sharing that! 🙏🏻
