Gross.

Sometimes fewer tracks are better. The original was great for a reason.

Enshitification everywhere.

This bullshit is like a virus. Artwork URLs from the iTunes Search API have the gross artwork, too.

Just because you can change something doesn’t mean you should.

@chockenberry Gonna have to take it up with good ol’ Waters 🤣

@chockenberry

It's so you can focus on the content. Maybe.

@chockenberry it is a homage to the original “black and wrap” cover of the “Wish You Were Here” album, celebrating its 50th anniversary. they include the titles so albums are distinguishable
@argonaut I get that. But what the hell does Animals have to do with it?

@chockenberry it's across all the services I have. Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube music, Sirius XM.

What the hell?

@chockenberry My hot take is: Should covers even be changeable? They should be analogous to what you would have seen if you bought the physical thing. Not yet another lever to play with for “engagement”.
@chockenberry *Throws more flowers upon the statue of @edwellbrook at the Doppler shrine to locally stored music collections.*
@chockenberry Might have had it more correct when we had to carry the bits around to play the music.
@chockenberry This caught me off guard today too. I presumed it was a creative solution to a copyright issue. At least I know what the album cover for Meddle is meant to be now!
@chockenberry @clarko yeah, it’s a tough one. I can understand fans might want live versions, unreleased demo tracks, etc., but it’s also like adding a commentary track to a Shakespeare play.
@chockenberry I guess I’m not a marketing genius but it’s unclear to me why half of the album is a live performance of a different album (Dark Side of the Moon).
@chockenberry Related: Why does Apple Music prefer the re-releases? When I ask to hear Ozzy’s No Rest For The Wicked I don’t want hear the demos and “bonus” tracks by default.
