Front end developer and UX advocate. Big company but not big tech. Mostly Golang, JavaScript, Swift, C#. I have entered the part of my career where I'm angry at things that waste users' time.

After 3 years at Shopify, I was just told they’re letting me go, so I'm now looking for my next role. Remote preferred but also open to hybrid/in-person roles (Boulder/Denver metro). If you know anyone who’s hiring, I’d love to connect! Boosts much appreciated 🙏

A bit about me: 8+ years of experience, primarily in backend. Most recently worked on Shopify’s checkout platform, focusing on Shop Pay, used by millions of shoppers and handles billions in transactions annually.

I never pace myself with talking at conferences. One day in, the conference actually starts today, and I've about lost my voice.

Sad.

Haven’t been here in forever. It’s either going to be great or massive regret.

Oh god.

Walking through another network iteration with cursor "helping" and I get to my framer and I'm side eyeing what it's suggesting and forgetting how my existing implementation really works.

Good. iPad Pro M4 is bricked trying to restore to production iPad OS 18.1.1.

Recovery mode loop.

QA really needs a return at Apple.

Great answer from @mbrandonw about the challenges of locking properties. Definitely a pattern I’m seeing a lot lately.

Preventing regressions when conforming to `Sendable` with `@unchecked`

Hi @josephduffy, unfortunately writing a truly concurrency safe class is a bit harder than just locking each property. The class you have shared is "safe" to use from multiple threads in that it won't lead to data corruption, but it is not safe in the sense that it is free from race conditions. For example, a simple test where we increment a CustomClass object 10,000 times will fail: @Test func raceCondition() async { let object = CustomClass() await withTaskGroup(of: Void.self) { group in ...
