We don't. We need to back whoever is the Democratic candidate is, and hopefully that candidate is the one who is most likely to succeed in their voting district/region.
And we should only boost what's good about the Democratic candidates. We should NEVER say, "Hold your nose and vote for them anyway." That is aiding the Republicans. Period.

In order to bring the "average" to what you believe, you don't say Lay's are middling. You say Lay's are great. That's how DEMOCRACY works, for better and worse.

My approach to polls is: state your dream. Say what your preferences are without paying any attention to their apparent chances. If everyone did that, the polls would accurately reflect what people *want*. And then they could be used to decide what you might realistically *get* and vote accordingly.
it should be:
1. primaries: criticize the fuck out of everyone, get left candidates
2. general election: shut the fuck up and vote
3. after the win: criticize the fuck out of everyone
what we get:
1. primaries: nobody shows the fuck up. we get centrist corporate AIPAC candidates
2. general election: endless anger about candidates being crap, suppressing the left turn out. some of it is troll psyop to make this happen on purpose
3. after the loss: whining, cynicism

It looks to me like Democratic politics has transitioned from representing us to frantically and clumsily attempting to pacify us. To reshape the party in our own image is obviously the only path forward, but the amount of entrenched money is gobsmacking.

@benroyce @hllizi @lax @isaackuo In theory, it would be possible via the constitutional convention, a clause never yet exercised in the current constitution. The probability of that ever happening is low, but not zero. I am not comfortable with the number of fascist delegates that would participate.
And it would also be possible by bloody rebellion and civil war, which poses a significant risk of multiple undesirable outcomes.
Voting in every election is the *safest*, most reversible way.
@lax @benroyce No, that's not what happened. Harris and Biden are close, and Biden insisted that there be "no daylight" between them during the campaign.
That was probably the correct decision, as they have internal polling (this is kept secret, and one of the reasons internal polling works well is BECAUSE it is kept secret).
Harris won't run again, most likely. Like most Democrats, she'll step back if it's in the best interests of the country and party.
