I managed to get the Amstrad ALT-386SX laptop to boot! W00t!
Even better is, that it's the original 40MB HDD!
Behold one of Alan Sugar's technology successes:
It's got Lemmings installed, I can see the owner had fine taste!
It's got Windows 3.1 with SkiFree installed!

@Gammitin

Does holding shift really speed away from the snowman?!

My father is an obsessive studier when making a major purchase. When he was buying the first “real” family computer many years ago (I was in middle school), he spent several hours over the course of a few weeks in CompUSA and Circuit City looking at options and weighing pros and cons.

While he did that, I often tagged along and spent a bunch of time playing Ski Free on the demo machines that were set up. It’s definitely a core memory.

@alatartheblue I've a memory like that, very similar, we were looking for our first computer and I remember going to this huge store (unknown UK one, called Icon or Ikon), I remember being mesmerized by the laptops and boxes software - it's one of those deep nostalgic memories you wish you could go back in time and relive again.
@Gammitin man I loved that game!
@Gammitin @aeva man alive I would love to have a case like this for mnt or even just a raspi.

@Gammitin what a stunner!

I remember those LCD screens, but not with any great fondness. That one seems to have good contrast.

@fluidlogic it's pretty sharp!

@Gammitin Wow, that looks lovely! Quite usable! And the full-travel keyboard is a treat. Can it run Windows?

Oh, probably not. Is the memory expandable?

@Gammitin

A hard drive manufactured in 1988 still works in 2025?! Holy cow that's amazing.
