Them: “Why are you wearing a mask? Are you sick?!”

Covid can spread without symptoms. I may or may not have Covid at any time. *You* may or may not have Covid at any given time. We could both be infected or not infected right now. Who would know?

That, dear heart, should scare you more than the sight of a mask. Or a respirator, which is what I’m wearing. Because I could possibly be infected and do not want to be responsible for getting someone else sick.

Them: "So, what, we're supposed to wear a mask forever just in case we're sick?!"

Look, the air is full of toxic crap that we should not be breathing. These N95/FFP2 respirators do a decent job filtering the pollen, pollutants, toxic particles, and viruses hanging in the air.

I wear a respirator now so I don't inhale crap that could make me sick in one way or another. We're in a particularly toxic era, and I don't see conditions improving in my lifetime, so, yes, I will be wearing it forever.

@thatkatharine in Winter, the level of particles in the air in Santiago is so high, that I have to wear a mask most days. I didn’t for a long time, and now I have asthma.

@thatkatharine
Them: being sick is shameful. Disease is an affliction placed on us by God for our lack of faith. Wearing a mask when don't have symptoms is evidence of your own recognition of your lack of faith. If you were a good person, you would not need a mask, your absolute faith in your God would be your shield.

Them: how dare you ask us to shamefully mark ourselves as heretics, as you have done.

@thatkatharine I'm with you & others with ongoing #MasksSolidarity 😷
@thatkatharine anyone who says anything about my mask I tell, all puffed up and self righteous, “ I’m taking personal responsibility. SOME people are into that.”

@thatkatharine

New boss flew back from a trip back east involving a lot of time in hospitals visiting ill relatives.

I suggested strongly that they should wear a mask during our mandatory all-hands meeting. To their credit, they did. (N95, even.)

But only when I was around.

Like...SO f'g missing the point....

@thatkatharine I specifically remember that during 2020 and 2021 there were so few people with colds or flu. We are germ factories, all of us.
