I still miss the days of Google+, I met so many awesome indie RPG developers there. These days I mostly hang around obscure discords and play comfy building/farming sims.

THE SUMMONING (2022)
Acrylic - 8 ½” x 7 ¼”

The paint for this came from a leftover palette. Most of the earth tones had dried up but the blues, turquoises, and greens looked okay. 1/2

A redditor (Ok_Lingonberry3296) traced $2 billion in nonprofit grants and lobbying records across 45 states to figure out who's behind the age verification bills.

The answer is Meta - a company that profits from your data writing laws that collect more of it.

the frustrating thing is that literally anyone who has thought about language and technology for fifteen consecutive seconds could have told you that autocomplete and other writing tools influence beliefs (and *have* been telling you this, over and over, for decades). the other frustrating thing is that slop-pushers *brag about their ability to do this* and right-wing actors are actively exploiting it, but in polite company everyone pretends that's not the case https://mathstodon.xyz/@gregeganSF/116219772468880168

“AI-powered writing tools are increasingly integrated into our e-mails and phones. Now a new study finds biased AI suggestions can sway users’ beliefs” “We told people before, and after, to be careful, that the AI is going to be (or was) biased, and nothing helped,” Naaman said. “Their attitudes about the issues still shifted.” https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/ai-autocomplete-doesnt-just-change-how-you-write-it-changes-how-you-think/

I don't think I've read as brutal an indictment against a culture as this one by @pluralistic

Today in terminal adventures, I learned that infocmp will silently drop critical parts of my terminfo if I don't pass it the "-a" option.

I was trying to figure out why "putty-256color" had working ctrl-leftarrow and ctrl-rightarrow in tmux, but "putty-direct" didn't, when they were identical (other than the color depth). Then I compared the binary terminfo files and roundtripped through infocmp/tic and realized I was dropping a ton of parameters.

#WritersCoffeeClub Footnote: fighter v. helicopter duels aren't as clear-cut as an outsider might expect. At altitude and speed, the fighter has the upper hand: but down in the ground clutter, the helicopter gunship can be approximated to an angry flak battery than can suddenly fly sideways at 200mph and duck under bridges: fighter pilots treat them with extreme caution because it's like poking a rattlesnake—you want to use the longest stick you can find.

This is huge for Who fans. The first and third episodes of The Dalek Master Plan have been found.
