On this Sunday night, I would like to once again thanks the wonder of Bandcamp for allowing me to legally download all the music I just purchased, give most of the sale to the artists, and allow me to add tips for the hard working human artists.

Give your money to artists, not platforms.
And frak all the tech stealing from them.

#Bandcamp #Music #NoAI #NoSpotify

@Em0nM4stodon I've been spending the cost of a spotify subscription per month on stuff from bandcamp since 2018 and i now have an incredible music library that cant be taken away.
@erin @Em0nM4stodon just looked at it but there isn't the music I want and that I use to listen to on Spotify 😅😬

@Em0nM4stodon I have admittedly not looked to closely at it yet but I would keep en eye on https://subvert.fm/

It's a artist owned co-op bandcamp alternative.

@Em0nM4stodon team never Spotify since day 1.
@Em0nM4stodon it's Bandcamp Friday this week!

@Em0nM4stodon Being able to do that is fantastic, yet I still worry how long it'll stay that way https://www.gearnews.com/bandcamp-sold-to-songtradr-what-does-it-mean-for-musicians/

(though in fairness it's managed to stay out of the news since 2023, so fingers crossed?)

Bandcamp sold to Songtradr - 50% of employees now laid off - gearnews.com

After the sale of Bandcamp from Epic Games to Songtradr late last month, yesterday more than half of Bandcamp's employees were laid off.

@Em0nM4stodon
Also love Bandcamp but it’s worth checking that the artist link to bandcamp on their social media (linktree etc).

Twice I’ve bought from Bandcamp only to have their customer support admit that the album was uploaded illegally.

Bandcamp refunded & removed the account but because they aren’t verifying account ownership, instead of more money going to artists, no money goes to them & 100% goes to fraudsters.

Half of Bandcamp's 120 employees laid off

The beloved indie music distributor and community hub lost half of its employees today, following an acquisition by music licensing company Songtradr.

@Em0nM4stodon it's a shame nothing like it exists (that's legitimate) in the tv/movie industry. quite a few pirates would gladly pay for one-time high quality drm-free downloads
@Em0nM4stodon Bandcamp is one of my favourite things on the current internet. I was worried when it changed owners. But I'm happy to see the important bits haven't changed (yet?).
@Em0nM4stodon I don’t stream music at all. If I’m going to pay for digital music then I have to be able to download it.
