Time for my daily AppleCare One threat.
@siracusa nice Mac Studio you got there, would be a shame if someone poured water on it
@siracusa The good news is Apple will give you 25 hours on 2025-11-02.
@siracusa Have thankfully not had this happen once for me - using it for Apple Vision Pro, iPhone 15 Pro and the Ultra 2 - sounds like I should avoid like the plague on the Mac
@siracusa that really is absolutely insane. thanks again for warning me off trying to buy it.
@siracusa I genuinely cannot tell. This is what they are doing now? Or is this a joke?
@jane_jordan Not a joke!
@siracusa Ugh! That sounds horrible! And awfully agressive! What are you gonna do, if I can ask?
@jane_jordan Call support, eventually.
@siracusa Good luck. Seriously. I am a little jealous, but on the other hand...well I can't complain. I have a Mac with a whole TB of storage, and it's faster than my Mac Minis ever wer, even though it used to belong to my husband. Next year come tax refund time, I will moe into the current digital age. LOL! For now, I make things work with Big Sur on one computer and Windows on the other...
@siracusa John, I think you said on ATP that the MBA you were having issues with was your son’s. Did you buy it with an edu discount? I am having no the same issue with one purchased that way and I wonder if there’s a connection.
@mhale0 Yes, it was purchased from an edu store, but I don’t think that changed anything. I’ve since seen the same behavior on non-edu devices.
@siracusa Ah, well, it was an idea. I am depressed by this “product” rollout.
@siracusa At this point they should call it Apple Care 365 because that’s how many times a year they cause you to have to deal with it’s service 😬
@siracusa Insurance companies are not exactly known for being very kind to their customers but one could surmise that even the more aggressive ones would not dare to dream of setting up such a hostile mechanism (not to mention obviously unreliable).
Aren’t there laws protecting consumers from abusive insurance practices?
@siracusa bring it in for service to see if they honor it (within 24 hours of course)
@siracusa I keep getting a message that my Wife’s phone is removed from our plan. I add it back, get charged, then a day later it’s removed. I add it back, get charged, then it gets removed again.. sucks.
@JPZ AppleCare One requires that all the covered devices on a plan belong to a single Apple Account. So your wife’s phone can’t be on “your” AppleCare One plan (unless you and your wife share the same Apple Account).

@siracusa

I guess we found out what some of the early Siri team ended up working on.

@siracusa i wonder if anyone is working on this. surely someone who follows you from apple must have notified someone in charge by now.
@siracusa we always have to weigh costs vs benefits of protection plans, and the costs of this one just keep going up. And the benefits are getting shakier!
That said, I’m pretty optimistic this will be fixed quickly.
@siracusa Tim Cook is an affected device.
@siracusa not that this should make any difference, but are there actually any other Apple IDs on the Mac or is it just yours? I’m assuming this gets triggered by some background process that uses another Apple ID to sync with Apple’s servers. If there are no other IDs on the machine then that would make this even more outrageous.
@sdjmchattie There are multiple accounts on all my Macs. And, yes, this is my leading theory about where Apple has gone wrong in their implementation (despite multiple user accounts being a feature of macOS for decades).
@siracusa Well yes indeed. It’s a multiple user environment. This is probably another example of being mobile first. They write the code to check for change of ownership on iPad, iPhone and visionOS where it’s a single user environment. Then they port it to macOS and do a quick shrug of the shoulders … ship it.
@siracusa You should see if you can file sone kind of consumer protection case against Apple. They are not following the rules that they themselves have set out in legalese, if this was a B2B thing it would be lawsuit city 🫠
@siracusa do you feel like Liam Neeson in Taken?
@dunkoh @siracusa I think he’s more like Jack Bauer but he’s starring in endless seasons of 24 against his will.
