[€261/€10,000] URGENT Legal Funds To Prevent An Abused Child From Being Deported - Lemmy Today
The lemmy.zip account I was posting from was banned and all posts erased for arbitrary reasons. Thankfully, most of what I typed was backed up elsewhere. Hopefully lemmy.today won’t consider 6 different posts mirrored to three different communities over a period of two and a half week to be “spamming.” (Edit: They did, but realized I was following the rules of this community so they unbanned me. 5 points to lemmy.today) For future reference, my main account is @ [/u/] [https://lemmy.world/u/aeronmelon] if something happens again or if you want to confirm I’m not a bot. My name is Aeron, and I had previously been an English teacher in Japan, which is also where my now four-year-old son was born. Despite my best efforts to prevent it, me and my wife began having marital trouble which led to every parent’s worst nightmare; my son was physically and emotionally abused at the age of seven months at the hands of my wife’s parents in an attempt to separate him from me inside my own apartment. He was abused again at the age of two at my wife’s hands. After this, me and my son lived separately from her, hoping to find some way to repair things and continue to be a family in spite of everything. But things only got worse from there. Instead of sitting down and working things out, my wife spent a year and a half threatening us with police and legal action, taking efforts to prevent me from providing medical care and schooling for my son, and being verbally abusive to me. Then she disappeared from our lives altogether. I tried going on alone but the Japanese government refused me any kind of assistance. Things reached a point where the only way to properly care for my then three-year-old son was to seek asylum in another country. We have been in Ireland for six month now. He now has proper medical coverage, goes to school, has made real friends, and we are both finally starting to recover from our prolonged trauma. However, once my wife found out, she began pursuing us in Irish court claiming child abduction. Because we’re still on financial support, I had to rely on free legal aid to represent myself. In spite of being shown evidence of abuse, abandonment, and my wife expressing mental instability and suicidal thoughts, the court is ruling in her favor and wasting no time preparing to forcibly deport my still recovering son back to Japan to be placed in the care of the woman who abused him in the first place. We need your help to secure proper legal representation to prevent this miscarriage of justice. It was something of a miracle that I managed to pull it off. The money I generously received was just enough to take care of everything. Thank you very much, you all know who. Now that that part is taken care of I can focus on getting a new solicitor. I have no idea how much it will cost (or how much I will need up front) but the research I’ve done so far says that family law cases in Ireland can run up to €25,000. When I get a more accurate figure, I’ll update the post. For now, that’s the goal. Same for when I find out how much I need up front. Please help us in any way you can. Please share this post with anyone you think can help out. We both appreciate it very much. If you want more information about what is happening, I’ll share what I can. If you have any question or can offer help in another way, please DM me. Thank’s everyone. It still feels dire, but we’re making progress thanks to you. :) 7 May Update: I have not been able to find a solicitor in time for the appeal’s reading, so I have to appear myself. I’ve been told what to do, I just have to do it without throwing up or passing out. There’s a good chance that because I haven’t secured representation yet that the order to remove my son from the country will be stayed or at least delayed until I can be allowed to make an argument properly. Wish me luck. Even if they don’t, even if the worst comes to pass, I am still fighting this like my son’s life depends on it - because it really does. I need about €50 ASAP to cover travel expenses and fees related to filing documents for the appeal. The quotes I got for up-front legal expenses vary wildly, but I need at least €1,500 to start. Please help us in any way you can. We greatly appreciate it. And if anyone can recommend an Irish solicitor, that would also be great. 8 May Update: (This update was delayed because I was so completely exhausted and needed the entire weekend to rest.) My notice of appeal was accepted, to the frustration of my wife’s representation. The order to have my son deported was stayed indefinitely pending an appeals hearing which is scheduled for the 17th of June. But we need to be ready long before then. I am still trying to find a solicitor to take my case, but it should be easier now that there’s time to prepare. I’m being told that the upfront costs could be between €1,500 and €3,000, so I’ll start by assuming the worst and ask for €3,000. I also know that family law cases can easily reach €25,000 when they’re all said and done. I need at least €3,000 for upfront legal costs (including any related fees and transportation to appear in court). Our basic needs are being met, but I could always use help with other expenses like clothes and toys. All of the money received will only be used to pay for legal representation, unless you allow otherwise. Thank you so much for any help you can give us. We really appreciate it. 14 May Update: The good news is I’m finally getting some solicitors to call back with a yes. The bad news, the upfront costs is €10,000 at the lowest. With an expectation that it will be €30,000 when all is said and done. I have received a few donations, thank you as always, but I need to raise at least €10,000 as soon as humanly possible because (whichever one it ends up being) needs to start working immediately. The hearing is only a month away, and there are smaller deadlines before then that need to be met. I hope enough people can help me over the weekend so I can get someone to start on Monday. Please let me know if you can help. Thank you so very much. 17 May Update: I have confirmed that any solicitor I choose cannot even begin work unless the full €10,000 starting fee is paid upfront. So I need to raise that amount as soon as possible. Please help us in any way you can, please share this with anyone you think would want to see it. Even simply passing this information on to someone else could make a difference. Thank you very much for your support.
