It’s time for #Monsterdon in a half hour!

Tonight, we’re watching Little Shop of Horrors (1960)—NOT the musical version, so it’ll be interesting. I’ve seen this before, and IIRC, it’s a much darker ending than the musical.

Start the movie at 8pm CDT (01:00 UTC), follow the #Monsterdon hashtag, and contribute your own silly commentary.

the Timeloop Café

“He got blown up. Who knows how?"

“That’s nice. Would you like some flowers?”

#Monsterdon

I have no idea what’s going on.

#Monsterdon

Some guy is in the shop eating carnations, and Seymour is played by Johnny Knoxville’s ancestor.

#Monsterdon

She’s already drunk over half of that bottle of liquid that’s 98% alcohol.

#Monsterdon

Is the flower eater an alien?

#Monsterdon

Licking the safety pin to sanitize it. Checks out.

#Monsterdon

“Feed me more!”

I don’t like the voice actor they chose for this plant.

#Monsterdon

Well, at least that death was an accident.

#Monsterdon

Jack Nicholson!

#Monsterdon

The dialog between the detectives is amazing!

#Monsterdon

“You been breathin’ for years, ma.”

“Well, it ain’t easy. It ain’t easy, son.”

#Monsterdon

SUDDENLY, SEYMOUR!!!

#Monsterdon

“How’s the rain on the rhubarb?”

Is that a euphemism?

#Monsterdon

“Now, the float will be perfect!”

#Monsterdon

And they fucked off into…the plant?

#Monsterdon

Oh, yes! Now, the musical is showing on @miru’s stream!

#Monsterdon

How is it pouring, and the singers aren’t wet at all?

#Monsterdon

At least it wasn’t a total eclipse of the heart, which would be even more baffling.

#Monsterdon

Rick Moranis is really amazing.

#Monsterdon

I think Jack Antonoff of Bleachers took a lot of style inspiration from Rick Moranis’s Seymour Krelborn.

#Monsterdon

Steve Martin as the dentist is one of the best casting decisions ever.

#Monsterdon

Audrey is very confused.

#Monsterdon

I have no recollection of this movie ending like this.

#Monsterdon

That revolver should be out of bullets by now.

#Monsterdon

I don’t remember any of this at all.

#Monsterdon

@ramsey @miru the shojou manga it's clearly based on makes sense, i'm sure of it

#monsterdon #LittleShopOfHorrors1960

@moira @ramsey @miru the shoujou manga is completely different...at least the anime adaptation was completely different. both involved a cursed shop and tragedies
@ramsey @miru I'm so sad that musical was never produced

@joncruz @miru You mean the vampire musical the songwriter was working on?

#Monsterdon

@ramsey @miru exactly. Even when the song was first released, I heard it as exactly that
@ramsey That was actually mentioned in the director's commentary version (which I caught the first few minutes of). IIRC Frank Oz wanted to convey that the singers were in some sense not fully in the universe of the movie, otherwise they'd seem weirdly out of place in Skid Row. Or something like that.

Thanks, everyone, for another great #Monsterdon, and especially thanks to @Taweret for hosting, @Cherizilla for #MonsterdonBingo, and @JoeWynne for the themed drink.

Cheers!
