The Linux Experiment Podcasts

@thelinuxEXP @tlenewspodcast Hi Nick,

I didn't notice the missing podcast last week, but if your video didn't appear on PeerTube, I would of course notice it immediately. I would write you a comment right away 😉

Thank you for your work 🙏

@thelinuxEXP How long until github starts requiring m$ account :P

@thelinuxEXP

#BigTech really seems to enjoy lighting the fuse to the hypothetical explosive, letting it explode in their face, and then screaming about it happening.

Yet another product is bound for the #GoogleGraveyard as #Google is incapable of not killing their own products, while Microsoft is enshittifying everything they get the damn hands on. Eventually, even companies using ActiveDirectory, Azure (i.e. the entire MS Stack) will dump #Microsoft if they keep this behaviour up, and there will be no coming back from that.

And then, of course, there's the #AI companies which are as awful as usual

@thelinuxEXP I am still a user of Windows since childhood and it was the only operating system i used for the rest of my life.

I still haven't been using Windows 11 and totally refused to upgrade to their half assed OS. Seeing Microsoft leading Windows to the grave with its AI features is a really bad sign.
However, i still don't know if i would move to #Linux due to the current status of compatibility with Windows applications, though i feel like it's time they'd start working on it.

@AleF2050 @thelinuxEXP until you try it, you cannot know. you have nothing to loose, just try it from USB. you might surprise yourself. we (linux users) were in your shoes once. so yes, it is feasible that you might like it. and without command line (my whole family runs linux without it, because there's no need for our use cases).
@AleF2050 @thelinuxEXP it really depends on what you do. Most of the time there is equivalent application but don't expect Free software People to accomodate paying software .
@AleF2050 @thelinuxEXP just download virtualbox or other virtualization sw, download some user friendly distribution like Ubuntu and try it in the virtual machine. Really depends on what apps you using, for me it’s easy to have Linux as a personal computer system. I ll get back to it after my testing period of Apple stuff. Next laptop will be from tuxedo computers and next phone probably pixel with grapheneos.
@AleF2050 @thelinuxEXP "Windows applications" is very very broad term. Majority of them just work, but highly specialised ones usually have quirks that stops full functionality.

@AleF2050 @thelinuxEXP

Wait until October then you'll be able to get another Windows computer for free and just run parallel systems.

Then you'll have both and you can make a more informed choice.

@AleF2050 @thelinuxEXP

What Windows-specific Applications do you use? There may be an alternative, or you could always run them inside a Virtual Machine (which isn't too hard to set up if using something like VBox) for when you need them

@thelinuxEXP

I'm just hoping someone comes up with something better than a Debian reskin.

@thelinuxEXP Oh man, depending on what is ruled on the copyright class action lawsuits, Microsoft could really benefit from those rulings since Microsoft can easily change their ToS and require you to consent to allow them to use everything you have on your computer, or OneDrive, or GitHub.
