Has Marketing Ruined Bikes?

Has marketing ruined bikes? It's a question editor Nic Morales pondered after receiving "The Rough-Stuff Fellowship Archive" photo books...

BIKEPACKING.com
@koen_hufkens it was an interesting read, I mostly ride 2nd hand not expensive bike with the goal to do daily stuff, so probably not the target audience. very nice picture from that archive and a good question on how to produce a more generic bike.
@koen_hufkens as someone who nowadays rides because it is more fun than driving and I need to get to/from work and shopping, the answer is obviously "duh, yes", at least in the US.
@koen_hufkens thanks for sharing, terrific read!
Also I loved the presentation of „How to do Nothing“ by @jennitaur - love to be able to follow her here!

@koen_hufkens Ever since I got a cargo bike that I use as a car replacement, I have felt that we have been misled into thinking that the only form of biking is mountainbiking, or road biking. These forms of transportation have almost no utility when compared to cargo biking.

We have been told that you ride a bike to have fun on the weekend where you get to by car. You don’t buy a bike to replace your car that you use daily.

Screw that, I ride my cargobike on the trails with my daughter on.
