Chipmunks are cute and all...until they start leaving half your tomatoes half-eaten. There is a new enemy in the garden.
@briankrebs chipmunks are the one animal I don’t mind our cats chasing. Well maybe rabbits too.
@briankrebs what about your dog? Doesn’t he chased them away? 🍅🐿️🐕
@briankrebs I heard you can use plastic snakes to keep them away.
@Psyche30_ @briankrebs I tried that once and it did an amazing job of keeping the plastic chipmunks away.
@briankrebs This is where the feral kitten you rescued, now grown but not quite tame, leaps into action. "Busy" cats are useful cats. 🙂
@briankrebs not cute. Just as not cute as trash pandas.
@briankrebs this year it's a battle with rats eating the tomatoes, squirrels eating the kale...American carnage!

@briankrebs

If Saturday morning cartoons have taught me anything, it's that waging war against chipmunks is a losing proposition. Sorry about your tomatoes.

@briankrebs Same for squirrels and lemon trees.
Yeah, over here got them holed up underneath the concrete walkway by the front door. Eleven in a row is the all-time record so far. If there's one, there's at least ten.

@briankrebs

They'd behave well and eat up the tomatoes in full if their enemy in the garden didn't disturb them, so often. 😉

@briankrebs

Destructive little monsters. Will dig under foundations, chew through concrete.

Not cute in that light.

@briankrebs

Sorry for misinformation. They do NOT chew concrete, but they will destroy slab foundations and patios but burrowing under them.

And enter attics, barns, campers etc. and chew stuff up.

@briankrebs I had chipmunks cleaning out my bird feeder. The chipmunk even dug a burrow in the garden to be close. I ran the hose in there for awhile every morning. (Their burrows are built in a J, so they got wet as they came and went, but didn't drown) After two days, they gave up and moved.
@briankrebs Chipmunks and squirrels are just rats with good PR.
Squirrel Soaker 9000: Protecting the Birdfeeder with Artificial Intelligence

@briankrebs once the bees have finished with the tomato flowers, I encase the plant in a net. Much better harvest now. For me, anyway. 😄
@briankrebs yeah they should eat entirety of it
@briankrebs I planted some Thai chili peppers right next to my tomatoes. That’ll teach them real quick.
@briankrebs Squirrels do the same thing. I learned that they don’t eat them as much as drink the juices, especially on hot days. Knowing this somehow makes it look less wasteful.
@briankrebs @catsalad Physical barriers seem to be the only thing that can stop them reliably...

@briankrebs Brother Brian you've got a low level intrusion with root access to your salad.

In my village we don’t waste time with incident reports. We escalate to physical layer security. Last week a baboon tried to ransomware my banana trees now that bastard be cooking in my stew. Get your 22 and make yourself some chipmunk stew my brother.
