@dmoren I don't believe the original version even exists any more, at least not in a format that would allow a new theatrical release.
@rainynight65 @dmoren It does. BFI has a physical print amongst others 🙂
@Kristofferabild @rainynight65 Yep. They literally screened it last month with an introduction from Kathy Kennedy. Find it difficult to believe it could not be scanned and restored. https://www.forbes.com/sites/bennyhareven/2025/06/13/lucasfilms-kathleen-kennedy-introduces-bfi-screening-of-rare-1977-star-wars-film-print/
Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy Introduces BFI Screening Of Rare 1977 Star Wars Film Print

Seeing an original 1977 print of Star Wars at the BFI Southbank was a long-awaited treat for film fans.

@dmoren @Kristofferabild @rainynight65 I likely would go re-watcn Star Wars for the anniversary regardless, but THIS is what I want. Present it as both a blockbuster and a film preservation. Let people know they haven't seen this version before (or officially in a very long time). I think that angle could work. George Lucas made many good choices, but let's not let one of his bad/questionable ones rule any longer...

I hesitate just a bit here as I do not want to be like the Snyderverse people and ignore reality, but I do think making a new high quality scan of a classic & showing it as it was could be a winning formula, but then I prefer watching films in OAR as well 😄

@dmoren you win mastodon for the day.
@dmoren I hope is yet another special edition!
