This made me chuckle.

@barubary @VincentTunru @uliwitness @f4grx yes, absolutely right and thanks for tagging the text for me, I posted yesterday in a rush!
@tomgag I'm pretty sure that is beyond the estimated lifespan of Earth.
@bjornsdottirs @tomgag I'm just hoping we'll make it to 2038 as a civilisation ...
@tomgag Feel free to ignore, but in case you're interested: alt text is primarily useful for people who can't see an image. Knowing that there's a Hacker News comment in this image isn't very interesting to them; more helpful would be including the comment itself.
@tomgag This is funny because it's true!
@tomgag why not just bite the bullet now and adopt 128-bit time
@mjdxp @tomgag No, no, how are we supposed to destroy SkyNET?

@tomgag Accessibility Description:

HackerNews thread:

Debian switches to 64-bit time for everything (The Register)

efitz: They're just kicking the can down the road. What will people do on December 4, 292277026596, at 15:30:07 UTC?

zaik: Celebrate 100 years since complete ipv6 adoption.

@tomgag with useful alt text
@sodiboo @tomgag @catsalad the second comment is probably WAY too accurate.

@sodiboo @tomgag

"We are on the cusp of total IPv6 adoption, choom. Our two machines are the last two IPv4 hosts on the net. All you have to do is shut down your server, then I can shut down mine, and it'll be done."

"No u”

@tomgag i'm not quite sure but warhammer 40k universe is gone for a long time than right. Do we even have a scifi that got that far? Maybe worth considering like a catastrophe movie where people fear thier computers wont work after that date.
@m3tti Think Stephen Baxter's Xeelee Endurance is the only thing that comes close with at least one story set around four-something billion years into the future
@tomgag That's a very optimistic timeframe for complete IPv6 adoption.

@tomgag ipv6 adoption is probably the greatest proof of why you want backwards compatibility.

Also. There ary many actors responsable for the switchover. Computers and Network units as now should be compatible. So now It is the time for telco and web services.

Also it would be good if telcos understand this new technology, I don't want to see dynamic single ipv6 addresses all around.
