Serious question: What do you like about Mastodon / the Fediverse? Why do you come here?
@LoganFive for me it’s because:
- it’s quirky.
- not for profit.
- my server is actually a great community I never had in other services
- less addictive
@slims @LoganFive
I come here because I feel I can express myself safely. I love the interaction I get from people I have connected with.

@LoganFive

I have come here to have my vengeance and wreak havoc throughout the world

@LoganFive

Also I liked what you wrote 😊

One of the things I like most about Fedi is the genuine nature of the people in my community. There is a difference between the type of post cynically written for faves and boosts and one written to make people laugh or to reach out and make a connection / start a conversation. Mostly it's poor mental health. But you can usually feel the heart behind a person through their posts, and it's one of the reasons I like you and find you so funny. I know most of the people I interact with, or at least recognise the majority. Any bad faith actors are quickly dealt with and usually it's quite funny because it's so weird and rare. Yes there is a bit people popping up to accuse you of not being virtuous enough, but I'll take that over the alternatives. Lastly something I don't appreciate as much as I should anymore...... no advertising. Incredible when I have to engage with any platform that literally forces you to watch adverts. It's so mad. What kind of dystopian nonsense is that? Keep on keeping on, brother. You are very much a pillar of this community and the wider Fedi in general. I'm glad you're here and I'm glad to know you.

@TheBreadmonkey I’m not crying, you’re crying!

Thank you for that. I feel the same about you. 🫂

@LoganFive 😊❤️
@TheBreadmonkey By the way, coming back to this discussion of ads, what is the deal with commercials running at gas stations now! It drives me insane! I'm paying for the gas already! I shouldn't have to suffer through a fucking ad! Someone should make an app that marks all the gas stations with commercials so people can avoid them.
End of Rant.
@TheBreadmonkey @LoganFive That's nice. Want a juice box?
@LoganFive
Escape the pain of depression and be who I, hopefully consider me a friend
@LoganFive It's less screamy than anywhere else. No ads. No algorithm. I connect with real people.
@LoganFive It's a fun community to interact with. And I am in charge of my own time line, as there's no algorithm that determines who or what ends up in there.

@LoganFive

a) The people.
b) Also the people.

@LoganFive everyone's a real weirdo, not faking it for the algo

@LoganFive The Fediverse is *nice*.

Which is actually incredibly good for the soul.

@LoganFive the attention (srsly - on Twitter it often felt like I was yelling into the void, whereas here, people fave and boost at will and get into meaningful conversations with me 🥰)
@LoganFive Because nice people seem to bimble along at their own pace rather than being sucked into a rage vortex by an anger algorithm. And no ads.
@toxy @LoganFive the entropy is better here too, than those sites where visits are managed by algorithms to try to show you something 'sticky' (usually annoying) to prolong your visit. The feeling is more like a cafe noticeboard than some sort of TV show.

@mjr i really like the cafe noticeboard comparison..

I like the authentic nature of discussion - and I always know events before anyone else-

Infosec community, news in Ukraine, Europe and the US..

Global perspectives plus LGBTQ+ ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

@toxy @LoganFive

@LoganFive
I come for the good people and the shitposts.
@Waitnwallflower @LoganFive Same. And not just the shitposts but the wide variety of shitposts. There are some truly brilliant people on here that make me lol daily

@tayfonay @LoganFive

Just building on this, there are just genuinely good people here, too. People I'd love to have as neighbors, people who are just kind humans, making the world a little bit better by being in it.

This place has a sense of community like I've not encountered on other platforms. It also has a level of diversity that I've not encountered on other platforms, embodying the concept of "it's a small world after all."

Glad to be here.

@LoganFive Originally I just wanted a non-centralized, non-horrible alternative to the likes of Twitter/etc (I left it before it became... that.) I definitely like that about it for all that there are some disadvantages along the way.

But I think what's fast becoming my favorite is that so many people around here have interests in all these things that I just never even would have thought to look for and no algorithm ever would have shown me. There are just so many really interesting posts about all kinds of things I would have missed on other networks.

Also I think there are more posts about some of my same interests here too. But that may say more about me than Fedi, lol.

@LoganFive Hey John 👋😊

For the banter (& the bad dad jokes! ). The folks here are really friendly & it such a nicer community than other platforms I could mention.

@LoganFive No ads. No wealth generating algorithm. The annoying people are fewer and less egregious. Beige.party is my real family now and I hope I can earn its love with my loyalty and worship.
@Kierkegaanks @LoganFive Probably not a cult
@glasspusher @Kierkegaanks @LoganFive
Definitely not a cult
I’m waiting for the day autocomplete finishes that sentence for me.

@CasualPiDay @Kierkegaanks @LoganFive

yeah that'll be useful artificial intelligence

@LoganFive
1. All the lovely people.
2. I don't have to click on NO multiple times to come here.
3. No ads. No manipulation.
4. Editing!
5. Diversity!
6. Not for profit. Fuck billionaires!
7. Abundance of Dad jokes and shitposting.
@LoganFive
For me it's the people here. I'm basically going to reflect what others have said, but they're generally and genuinely interesting, kind, and caring.
Plus I enjoy the interactions, whether it's comments, boosts, or favourites, it's nice!

@LoganFive By far, the supportive and very kind vibe that pervades the Fediverse. Being there for each other in our special interests, causes, and life-sharing is a very safe space that I greatly cherish.

Edit: Also the wonders of this being a true global community and all the positives that represents.

@LoganFive I have fallen in love with bird photos on Mastodon.

@LoganFive
Clout free.
Careless whispers.
A group sandcastle.
Puns.
More Puns
RaPunsals, to let my hair down.
Provocation (of thought)
Your excellent Puns.

And introducing me to capibaras.

@LoganFive No ads, no algorithm, a choice of apps, freedom to switch servers. Most importantly, a diverse set of nice people from around the world that I wouldn’t have met any other way.
@LoganFive the #linux hashtag is my fav hastag
@LoganFive It's easy to mute politics and #Linux here.
@LoganFive I honestly love that my fellow instance operators and I can set moderation policy, and keep sections of the fediverse either at arm's length or fully Away.

@LoganFive I don't really like mastodon per se, it's a bit too twittery, but I do like the fediverse. I'm using friendica as my main fediverse server and it feels more focussed on interaction instead of dumping short opinions into the void.

I like all the niche communities (words stolen from @BjornW@mastodon.social) you can find on here, and not being bothered by algorithms and ads.

@LoganFive

I do Reddit for news and gossip ... and expressing strong opinions.

Mastodon is for more quiet, thoughtful browsing, where I can and do easily mute people who are annoying. There are interesting posters (e.g. DenialofSecrets). And the news is usually well done too.

@LoganFive

The Beige party robes. They are both comfortable and flattering.

@TwoClownsEating @LoganFive somewhat revealing, and hence poor in icy winds, but otherwise strangely appealing, some would even say, alluring.

@curiously @LoganFive

I find the ventilation refreshing.

@LoganFive
no algorithm to dictate my feed

@LoganFive it reminds me of Usenet back in ‘93.

I liked the internet back then, it was a fun space full of people trying things and exploring a new space, being authentic and open and not trying to monetise or be performative.

Mastodon feels the same as that. Mostly.
