More cuteness for #WildlifeWednesday! 🐾

I met this young #squirrel in the Walsrode bird park quite unexpectedly – it wasn't one of the i̶n̶m̶a̶t̶e̶s̶ inhabitants, but a wild one, roaming the park for food.

@addiebeal: I thought I could show you the tufts on our #squirrels, but I'm only just realizing that this one doesn't have them (yet?), damn! 😅 Aaand I also just learned that the tufts are more prominent in their thicker winter coat. In summer, the ear-tufts are a lot smaller or even gone. I had no idea!

I NEED ONE
🤭 It's pocket-size, you just have to be fast enough!
I'll put my trainers on! 😂✨
Wait until I have my camera ready please 😂
😂😂😂 Absolutely and then you can send it into a Home Video show where people do stupid things 😂 Get some money out of it! 💰✨
Bwahaha, don't give me ideas! 😂 I can totally see it! With that Yakety Sax song playing in the background 🤣🤣🤣
@meoralis I was thinking exactly that! It'd definitely be some Benny Hill type shenanigans 😂✨
Yup, people would definitely pay money for this! 😁
🤩😍🤩😍
That's exactly what I looked like when I saw it! 😁
So cute! And it's red. The ones we have are black or grey. 🤔
This is what our run-of-the-mill squirrels look like here! 😄 I've seen the grey, round-ear squirrels in England for the first time
Stop…it’s too cute…I can’t…
Stay strong! ✊
That’s got to be one of the cutest squirrels I’ve ever seen 🥹😍 Even though the tufts on this one aren’t fully grown-in, the ears are still noticeably more furry than those of the North American red squirrel. That makes sense the tufts are more prominent in winter!
Right? 🤭 I was so happy when I saw it hopping around. And it was nice enough to stop and rest so I could take a few photos. I've seen my fair share of squirrels, we even have a lot in my village, but they're usually so fast and fidgety, it's impossible to get a decent shot
@meoralis there are a lot of squirrels where I live too and they also rarely hold still enough for a good photo. Do you have other types of squirrels where you live besides this one?
@addiebeal Nope, just the Eurasian red squirrels. Seeing the grey ones in Britain for the first time was really special – until I realized they are as common as rats and are considered invasive pests that displace the red ones. 😅 As of now, grey squirrels only populate Britain and Italy, but I guess it's just a matter of time until they are going to cross the Alps. Hopefully our pine martens and other predators will keep them better in check than in the UK
