It's always nice to see a heron in full breeding plumage, complete with long black crest and white lanceolate plumes on its front. This one was in Victoria Park in the west of Glasgow, where they breed at the top of some of the tallest trees in the local area.

Birds sure do have a finely tuned sense of when a camera lens is pointed at them. 👀

This robin seems to be interested in making friends today. There's also a magpie that I'd VERY much like to make friends with, who I see a lot of. 🪶

When I see the magpie next, I intend to ask them for permission before I attempt to take their photo. 🙏

A very faded and battered red admiral butterfly I encountered in the West End of Glasgow yesterday. Given its condition, I'm guessing it's one from last year which has emerged again as the weather has warmed up. This appears to be quite rare in Scotland as it's generally thought of as a migratory species which overwinters in warmer climes further south on mainland Europe (although some have been recorded over-wintering in southern England in recent years).
