i love this so much

maybe i’ll hang it in my classroom this year

@babyalligator for fun, an unofficial Pythagoras' Theorem DLC:

Pythagoras' Theorem:
the squared area of a hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squared areas of the other two sides

Pythagoras' Gun
a gun handled in euclidean space must be handled with euclidean care

Pythagoras' Cat
the area of a cat is equal to the area of the box containing him

Pythagoras' Razor
the most elegant triangle is probably the right one

Pythagoras' Law
square pizza must be served with three accompanying sides

@falcennial The Streisand Effect:
the attempt to silence or censor information will lead to greater public awareness of that information

Streisand’s Gun:
The time to put the silencer on the gun is before firing, not after

Streisand’s Cat:
If you throw your noisy cat out of the house, it will caterwaul all night outside your window

Streisand’s Razor:
The best singers in the world do not get nose jobs

Streisand’s Law:
Any unpleasant rumor than can be spread, will be spread

@falcennial @babyalligator pythogoaras was an idiot. a square pizza? that's either cheese on toast, or Euclid has been in the restaurant with his nonsensical experiments. even when he's done, it is still bloody circular!!!
@babyalligator
The "Checkov" spelling is so bizarre, in my mind it oscillates between these two:

@gemelen yes, I felt the same! I had to override my impulse to correct the spelling when I did the alt text.

and it also opens up the potential for follow up jokes about, oh, playing checkers? or Chechoving things from a list?

@babyalligator
This is pure genius, madly amusing, and a little scary how well it works.
Deserves some kind of prize Oven Mitt.
@Guillotine_Jones I agree! the prize of our collective attention, definitely

From left to right and top to bottom:

If a gun is introduced in the first act, it must be fired by the third.
If a box is introduced in the first act, a cat must sit in it by the third
The simplest way to fire a gun is to pull the trigger
Every gun in a play will be fired
You can't know if a gun is loaded, or not, until the trigger is pulled
An unopened box may contain a dead cat, or an alive one, and you won't know until you open it
An unopened box may contain the solution to your problems
You can't know that things will go wrong, until they do
The simplest way to kill off a character is to shoot them

@babyalligator

If you hear a strange noise at night, it's probably a cat
The simplest explanation is probably the correct one
Everything that can be explained, will be explained
Any gun that can go off, will go off
Any box that can contain a cat, will contain a cat
Anything that can be simple, will be simple
Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong

@babyalligator How have I had a PhD in philosophy for 30 years and never seen this? It is a thing of beauty. 💕
@MissConstrue it gives one (me, more specifically) the sense that it had to have existed & so it does
