We are back! #C64 https://www.commodore.net/ The first official Commodore 64 in over 30 years is here - a faithful recreation of the original motherboard on FPGA hardware. HDMI, WiFi, USB, but compatible with every existing cartridge and peripheral. Not an emulator - a recreation. Same price as my first $299

Commodore
@shanselman OMG!!! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿคฉ
@shanselman the Commodore is truly keeping up with us, huh?

@shanselman Now if only their color choices on their web page didn't conflict with dark browser themes. I got white text on a white background, only way to see the text was to select it...

Nothing against Commodores, owned a VIC-20 and C64 and sold Amigas, but it sure would be nice to have a nicer site design.

@shanselman 24k gold-plated badges, satin gold keys, a translucent amber case, commemorative Commodore gold seal โ€™shareโ€™ certificate, โ€œI Rebooted C=โ€ tee, 24k gold Commodore badges โ€˜dog tagโ€™ necklace, and a gold label holographic serial number sticker starting at 00000001

nostalgia is one hell of a drug.

@shanselman Ooh... ๐Ÿ˜ฏ
So is this kinda like Mega65, but with a single core and/or less power? ๐Ÿค”
Either way, sounds exciting! ๐Ÿค“
@Liquidream @shanselman I built the unofficial version of this a couple of years ago and also have a Mega65. It's basically a turbocharged C64 with modern niceties like USB and HDMI. The Mega65 can do more, but I use the Ultimate 64 most frequently and love it.
@shanselman Now give the MEGA65 project a boost. Help them finalize the C65 as it was meant to be

@stirz @shanselman

omg, please don't tell me there are still 8-bit wars going on in 2025

@angiebaby @stirz 8bit peace IMHO
@shanselman @angiebaby Indeed. MEGA65 is a really neat project. Making it an official Commodore product would be the icing on the cake. For me, it is a perfect match

@stirz @shanselman

Just a humorous quip from a veteran of the Atari/C64 Wars. :D

@angiebaby @shanselman Same here, but didn't notice the irony.

So, I think I need a coffee now to fix that. MEANWHILE, HERE ARE 5โ‚ฌ. NOW GO AND BUY YOURSELF A PROPER COMPUTER, YOU MISERABLE SPECCY USER!

๐Ÿซ

@shanselman does the โ€œweโ€ imply some involvement on your part? Iโ€™m mildly interested but TBPH your involvement would push me over the edge.
@genehack yes Iโ€™m an investor and considering joining the board
@shanselman @genehack Fantastic news! Congratulations and thank you!
@shanselman good to know, thanks (and good luck!)

@shanselman

But can I use it with an analog television set?

@cainmark 8โ€‘pin DIN port (same as original C64): provides composite (CVBS) and separate luma + chroma (Sโ€‘Video) signals, so yes

@shanselman

NGLโ€ฆ The idea of coding in 6502 again for a limited memory space is attractively nostalgic.

@shanselman Still have all left execept my zx81,
So vic20, vic64, amiga500 and all stuff around still works.
@shanselman and now the Important question: Are they working on a new Amiga 500/2000/1200/3000? My father and I had the best times with these machines.
It was hard when they blipped in 1994 and I had to switch to a soulless PC. #amiga #commodore
@themipper @shanselman isn't Amiga a totally different IP that was sold out to German ESCOM long ago and moved through a lot of hands? So not legally a part of Commodore any longer.
@danielsreichenbach @shanselman I think you are right. Forgot about that. What a shame. The Amiga was the real deal for me. It was so far ahead of its time.
@themipper @shanselman I still have an Amiga 4000 on my office desk, with an MNT ZZ9000 graphics card. Latest Amiga OS 3.2.3 on it. Both Mainboard and CPU daughterboard are the rebuilt PCB ones. Still my all-time favorite machine. And have one Vampire V4 SA (FPGA) which is a super faithful recreation.

@danielsreichenbach @shanselman That reminds me that I still have a 1200 stored away in the attic - back at my parents house. I have to bring it over the next time I visit.

No other machines were able to create that feeling of being home.

@themipper @shanselman I'd buy a new Amiga 1000, the honorable godfather of Amigas. ๐Ÿ’š

@themipper @shanselman

I think probably not. Aren't the Amiga rights scattered somehow between Cloanto and perhaps Hyperion?

@RockyBoulder @shanselman searched a bit. It seems Cloanto (or more precisely an acquisition company) bought all rights and trademarks back in 2019. That acquisition company renamed to Amiga Corporation like the original from 1982.
Wild ride.
@themipper @shanselman It is even more wild if you read things regarding who owns the rights to the 0S. Better don't, it's quite a rabbithole.
@shanselman will you be broadcasting software for it over AM radio, so that we can record it to casette? ๐Ÿ˜œ
@shanselman Not much for nostalgia personally. But I did enjoy the C64 back in the day (my first computer).
@shanselman Please, a C64c case in the future โ€” the bread bin is far too tall for me :)
@shanselman Holy shit ๐Ÿ˜ฑ The legend is still alive ๐Ÿ˜

@shanselman
My #Ultimate64 board arrived 2 weeks ago.
And I'm looking forward to finally installing it in the case.

But ... Please don't stop at the #C64!
Put on a new #Amiga!
We're just waiting for it.

@shanselman After playing catch-up with the YouTube videos, etc.
...I'm feeling VERY nostalgic, and quite confident that Commodore is now in good hands. Proper excited for this, as well as the future this now might enable (*cough* Amiga *cough* ๐Ÿ˜‡).
For now though, I'm hoping I can add "C64" to my birthday/Xmas list again this year! ๐Ÿ˜Š
@shanselman Please let me know when my VIC20 replacement is ready.

@shanselman

Nice. Does it have a software defined PAL/NTSC switch?

Back in the day it came handy on C16/Plus4 (blank screen and ntsc turned on) to massively speeded up Mandelbrot calls. ๐Ÿ˜‰
