An ancient Nokia device was found in an archaeological dig with 17% power.

@sjvn

Emergency Calls Only.

@sjvn I’m sure I have a compatible charging cable in my cable drawer
@jimfl @sjvn I think it was powered by solar energy.☀️

@sjvn

Cool! Who's the artist? I don't recognize "DDC."

@nobilis I don't know. I'm sure I saw this years earlier, so I presume it's a Photoshop rather than AI, but that's all I know.

@sjvn @nobilis Google's reverse image search can't find any similar images older than a year.

Also, those glyphs have AI slop written all over them.

Happy to be proven wrong though.

@jkirk @sjvn @nobilis it looks like Deep Dream Generator work unfortunately.

@sjvn @nobilis The earliest copy of the image tineye.com could find is a year old (dates back to august 2024) and it doesn't have that DDC watermark ... Link

/ME still believe it's AI generated.

@aelaraji Google did slightly better and traced it back to July 28 2024 on both LinkedIn[1] and some French social site[2].

Neither mention the original source of the image or how it was created. Both have the watermark.

I powered up my Nokia cell phone today. | Tim Moran 🤘🏼😎🎸

I powered up my Nokia cell phone today. It was state of the art in 1324 BC. | 16 comments on LinkedIn

@jkirk @aelaraji It’s the kind of quality @NanoRaptor makes (by hand).
@sjvn oh yeah, that is the Nokia Dolemite 7.
@sjvn excellent 🤣🤣🤣
@sjvn only 17%? i am disapointed
@sjvn Was the first saved number "1"?
@sjvn
That’s Thoth’s phone. Just show it the head of an ibis to unlock it.
@sjvn Someone found the actual Rosetta Stone?

@crazyeddie @sjvn

Rosetta Phone. I hope they recorded any voicemail that would play back, even if it was just "I'm calling about your chariot's extended warranty."

@crazyeddie @sjvn

...or text messages in cuneiform from or complaining about Ea Nasir.

@Cadbury_Moose @sjvn "We burried the ZPM in the great pyramid."
@crazyeddie @Cadbury_Moose @sjvn pyramids are built to get gsm signal from the top.
Ancient tech was reliable, but not sensitive.
@sjvn Its owner was found buried with a large box of obsolete chargers and cables.
@sjvn
This is SG1's original DHD
@sjvn Nokia 𓆼𓆼𓆼𓍢𓍢𓍢𓎆

@sjvn

The original owner of this Nokia phone likely used the battery to charge up their ancient intergalactic space ship

@sjvn Sadly it was found without it's charger and of course it uses a different charging port to any other Nokia.

@sjvn

Finally, we have proof of ancient advanced civilizations that also had bad UX design!

@sjvn I'd like to see what that expedition could turn up if it had 100% power.

@sjvn @rolle Ah yes, I’ll get my T9 Rosetta Stone and decoder ring ready.

RECEIVING PAPYRUS MESSAGE

@sjvn

Which ring was selected, Rosetta’s Tone?

@sjvn under one corner of the great pyramid - stopping it wobbling every time you put your drink down.
@sjvn In high school I had a friend who (foolishly) did bull riding. Gets on this big ol' bull who was pissed as fuck...and it broke every single one of his bones. His Nokia phone however....
@praetor Ha! I can believe it.

@nobodywasishere @sjvn right. I was dithering, but the clinching factor was that a real artist would have taken care to replicate the actual Nokia logo on there.

Good material for someone to make a handmade illustration of though! Hmm, maybe I can do one myself...🤔

@nobodywasishere @sjvn in situations like these I'm always scared of accidentally accusing a real artist's work of being "AI generated", a situation which is unfortunately likely to become more common as time progresses (at least until the #OuroborosEffect takes over) 😢
@sjvn okay so image generators are good for *something*

@sjvn

Is it really true?! What terrific power !!!

@sjvn @NanoRaptor I feel like I saw one of these in the background of one of your pictures.
