You know that meme about the ridiculous names of business productivity software? This is an actual notification I received at work this morning:
@katemorley they have played us for absolute fools
@katemorley More like "productivity" software, I guess.

@katemorley

I used to get regular notifications that I was to do a survey hosted on SurveyMonkey . I would delete them . Then the company asked why so few were responding to their surveys.

Well if you never announce you are doing them and have a another party with a weird name do them for you what did you expect?

@katemorley has Cake.com gone bust yet?

@katemorley Clockify notifications in Pumble by Cake!

I have no idea what's going on there, but it sounds entertaining at least.

@KJ7OFH @katemorley

"So sign up, get the notifications notification, and never miss important updates" 😄

@katemorley does this let you know when you get your Yammerz approval?
@katemorley this sounds so rude for some reason

@ret @katemorley

Instantly reminded me of Mr Collins in Pride and Prejudice.

"My small RECTory ABUTs her estate."

Pumble his clock!

@katemorley
Meme? I think I skipped over meme phase and went to 'This is reality' too quick

@katemorley she pumbles my cake til i clockify

*throws myself out of window*

@katemorley At least those names are kinda pronouncable words, unlike the armadillo-on-keyboard names of recent years.. "Glorpr needs access to your Flurb! profile.."
@katemorley When did Chris Morris get into Tech?

@katemorley

If someone told me I could get clockify notifications directly in Pumble, even without mentioning CAKE.com, I fear what I might do.

@katemorley "We're pushing out skanks to all of our team whenever a snick strombles. Flushify your cramalongs before updating Taters (by Spud.com) so you never miss splooshies when they skizz."
@katemorley Same energy
@joakimfors @katemorley ...And this isn't satire?
@lunarloony @katemorley I think satire is long since dead when it comes to blockchains
@joakimfors @katemorley Dammit, I hadn't thought about these apes for months :P
@joakimfors @katemorley Slurp juice is a weird name to call your cum, but I don't kinkshame.
@joakimfors @katemorley this all appears to be English and yet....

@katemorley

"Let me ask you something. When you come in on Monday, and you're not feelin' real well, does anyone ever say to you, 'You can now receive clockify notifications directly in Pumble (by CAKE.com)''?

@katemorley I admit I'm probably biased, but every single made-up word in there makes it sound like a notification you should be getting not-at-work.
@katemorley I am out of Bingo cards! The amount of senseless word creations in business and enterprise is liking me.
@lordkhan @katemorley I am waiting for somebody in the business world to say "creationization" with a straight face.
@katemorley I have the deepest sympathy for any sentient being who feels they have no choice but to chase after little pieces of paper in environments where they encounter these types of things against their will. Yet another reason to find ways to break free from the evils of crapitalism.
@katemorley I don't know whether to puke or laugh my ass off...

Plumbus

A Plumbus is an all-purpose home device. Everyone in the Rick and Morty universe has one, so nobody ever explains what it does or how it works. It was first shown in the episode, "Interdimensional Cable 2: Tempting Fate" where it was seen twice on the Interdimensional TV. First, when Stealy stole one from a workplace and again in an episode of How They Do It that shows the viewers how plumbuses are made. It is described as a common household and office item that is also used as an accent...

@katemorley Are you sure "Pumbleclock" is not just some british town? (/s)
@katemorley Can you share the meme?
@katemorley are you sure that's not a "special interest" dating app?

@katemorley It's not just productivity software. I saw this headline on hacker news the other day:

> Switching Pip to Uv in a Dockerized Flask / Django App

Sounds like absolute nonsense if you're not 100% in the know.

@fell @katemorley

... I just realized that I'm 75% in the know on that reference. I want out.

If I ever learn what 'Pip to Uv' refers to, it's all over for me.

@katemorley The fact that cake.com is wasted on anything but actual cake is the killer here. How much do you think they had to pay for that when every cake baker on Earth was surely clamoring for it?
@katemorley the resurgence of the tyranny of Cake?

Brass Eye - Cake Music [No Dialogue]

YouTube

@mrcopilot Brass Eye was a surreal and satirical comedy show in the 90s. They persuaded some prominent celebrities at the time to make public info appeals in all seriousness about a new recreational drug that was sweeping the UK with terrible consequences. But the show had made it all up. The invented drug was called Cake

@katemorley

@katemorley ‘Twas brillig and the slithy toves did gyre and gimble in the wabe… Makes me feel a bit mimsy.
@katemorley sure just let me get on Borkl so i can get my churgy smoop files.
@katemorley
While the names are certainly absurd, I've found Clockify to be a great time-tracking tool. Its UX is a definite upgrade from Toggl, which I used previously.
@katemorley this is my villain origin story
@katemorley Omg that’s spot on. Also, I’m sorry this is your life lol

@katemorley

I love that when I went to cake.com to find out WTF it is, it has the slogan:

"Imagine work being simple"

Yep, keep imagining.

@katemorley Just yesterday I saw a boosted post here that said "There is now a federated version of Pumble called Clockify!!" (or whatever). This disease has long metastasized.
@katemorley Oh, good — without clockify my workability would difficultize.
@keirFox @katemorley But can you use clockify to solution the information that Pumble summarizes and turns into actionable learnings?
@katemorley And look at the number of responses !😀
@katemorley I clicked "Set preferences", but nowhere does it let me convert from UK English to US English. Can someone who speaks "Brit" explain to this poor American what a pumble and a clockify are? Because those words are not from this side of the pond.

@targetdrone @katemorley a pumble is equivalent to a cockwomble.

Or ought to be, anyway.
