Companies That Tried to Save Money With AI Are Now Spending a Fortune Hiring People to Fix Its Mistakes

Companies that rushed to replace human labor with AI are now shelling out to have IRL workers to fix the technology's screwups.

@nixCraft
Would *you* go back for your old salary? To clean up the mess Copilot made of the codebase?
I wouldn't.
@silvermoon82 @nixCraft I'd either add a zero at the end, or let them stew in their own tech bro incompetence

@nixCraft they just haven't landed the right vibe coder yet. Keep searching for that magic mushroom!

@nixCraft There should be a lot of recently unemployed and gullible operations managers scrambling to find work.
@nixCraft and this is a perfect representation of CEO's and shareholders that are to busy looking at short term profits to see what long term profits would look like with AI.
@nixCraft don't worry: the users will fund this, one way or the other.
@nixCraft Maybe "AI" should stand for "Additional Income". "Why YESSSSS, you should DEFINITELY try AI! It could save you THOUSANDS!" If ANYTHING comes up, just let me know and I'll be happy to address your issues for a small fee....."

@nixCraft

So sad. But all those terrible code examples on places like #stackexchange (which were usually corrected but rarely removed by the community) are now part of the AI's that sucked them up.

#garbageingarbageout is more relevant than ever before.

@nixCraft just fire, and I mean this literally, ALL the managers. I had some good ones in my career, but I never had one I actually needed.

@nixCraft
WTF?!!? you just lost your job to our AI investment…must be rough. You should talk to our AI about that….

"I know these types of tools engender strong feelings in people, but l'd be remiss in not trying to offer the best advice I can under the circumstances," he continued. "I've been experimenting with ways to use [large language model] Al tools (like ChatGPT or Copilot) to help reduce the emotional and cognitive load that comes with job loss."

These people hate the average worker and are trying to get rid of us all.

@nixCraft Surely AI can replace C-suite executives easily, and I don't know why the shareholders aren't asking for it to happen.
@nixCraft - Yup cutting corners to make a buck never adds up.
@nixCraft Dunning-Kruger automation is also automated tech debt generation!
@nixCraft Just give more money to AI companies and the problem will solve itself 😩
@nixCraft
"spending a fortune" vs. the examples in the article.
I don't disagree with the sentiment, but companies spending 500 or 2000 bucks to fix something? Yeah, I was hoping for a more convincing set of examples 🤔
@nixCraft Mmmmm... smell that? Karma.
@nixCraft everyone's bashing europe for regulating everywhere but i'm just here, sitting, with popcorn, and my plastic lid attached bottle watching the US and China invest billions into a glorified chatbot that i can use free of charge.
@nixCraft - laying people off should be a crime unless you can demonstrate you must do it to avoid going out of business. Profitable companies should never be allowed to lay anyone off. If they no longer need people due to AI/Automation, they can transition those employees over to a UBI salary. 30% of all corporate revenue globally should go to the people in the form of salary or UBI.
@nixCraft its just the outsourcing craze all over again.

@mainframed767 @nixCraft I had fun challenging a suit about the "value proposition" of an outsourcing arrangement I suspected was questionable.

Of course it was all brought in house a few years later.

@nixCraft the celebratory tone is not justified here. "if you're very good,you won't have a problem" is nice, but how do you get very good if nobody hires entry level or intermediate hires?

@nixCraft Short-term AI cost cuts often lead to long-term cleanup bills.

Replacing humans without rethinking workflows, oversight, or accountability doesn't automate efficiency—it automates failure at scale.

The real expense isn’t AI. It’s deploying it without a plan.

@nixCraft
wow how shocking and unexpected
It's not like (almost) EVERYONE saw that coming
@nixCraft the picture is ****ing funny
@nixCraft The LLM hype is real Clown-suite thinking.

@nixCraft

Early adopters always pay the blood price.

First steam engines blew up.

@nixCraft AI is good to create prototypes. Be it code or art. But in the end you will need an expert "can you make something like that?"
