First they came for the trans community and I spoke out. They said I was deviant, they said I hated women, and they tried to silence my voice.

Then they came for the immigrants and I spoke out. They said I was unamerican, they said I hated my country and they threatened me with deportation.

Then they came for the judges and I spoke out. They said I was a traitor to law and order, they called for my job, and they threatened me with jail.

Then they came for the journalists and I spoke out. They branded me fake, they spat the word enemy and they put my name on death lists.

Then they came for the Senators, the Mayors, and our elected representatives and I spoke out. They said I was inciting violence, they said I was promoting chaos, and they sent armed soldiers in tanks to my city.

Then they came for the teachers, the librarians, and the protestors and still I spoke out. They pushed harder. Arresting, banning, deporting, murdering. Because democracy is dangerous when it does not serve them, and a democratic voice that will not be silenced the most dangerous of all.

Eventually they will come for you. And there will be nobody left to speak out.

@Lana

tl;dr: If you're dangerous to the establishment, they will find a way to kill you or imprison you. It was ever thus, I think.

@bytebro @Lana People seem to forget that Jesus was crucified not for any crime, but because he pissed off the Pharisees, the political leaders of the Palestinian territory under Roman occupation. Jesus was an Essene, a sect that believed in love and peace and sunbathing and generally being cool. The first hippies, as it were. The Pharisees had Jesus murdered because he was a political threat to their profits and their cooperation with the brutality of Rome.

Telling the truth about the evils of wealth has always threatened the wealthy. Suggesting that humans shouldn’t be born into servitude threatens the wealthy. Suggesting that all humans are humans, threatens the wealthy.

I mean, I’m kinda seeing a common problem, for thousands of years. Maybe we should try getting rid of the wealthy and see how that works out.

@MissConstrue @bytebro @Lana Communist! Why do you hate freedom?

(note: this was satire)

@hal_pomeranz @bytebro @Lana

Mostly, it's the chains! That's the part I hate the most about freedom. These damnable chains! ;)

@bytebro @Lana Yes. But only if you're alone. If there are many of them and they work together, they can't do it anymore.

@Lana Notice that every accusation in this toot is a confession.

Hypocrisy is a feature and not a bug for these people.

They will be devious, hate-filled, silence critics, threaten consequences, deport, engage in treason, act out of fake concern, spit, put people on kill lists, incite violence, promote chaos, arrest, ban, and murder.

Unfortunately, I suspect the time for peaceful protest and an airing of grievances has passed. #SecondAmendment #Tyranny

@JustinDerrick exactly. It's time to start seriously considering the low road.

@Lana I recently read a series of blog posts on the 1982 Falklands war, and how Argentina started it to distract their people from the government's economic problems. Many of the Argentinian leaders were involved in The Dirty War (look it up on Wikipedia) and I thought, how close are we to that? It's scary!

The Argentinians lost the Falklands War to the British, and within a year the military government was forced to allow elections. Things are still weird in Argentina, but not as bad as under a government that murdered around 30,000 of its own citizens.

@Lana well, I when you start seeing people of color who are out Nazis, yelling about how Barack Obama is the anti-christ welcome to the new world. I on this experience on the bus yesterday.
Ever since Herbert Walker Bush with his Clarence Thomas, there have been some really changed minds that oppose everything this country might have been.
It is Grand Theft.
@Lana Your post inspired me to create a meme. Let me know if I should credit you for the poem revision or if you know the author.
@ariareyslay feel free to use my words in any way you'd like.
@Lana Thanks so much! I love the strength and resistance in your version. It's more appropriate for those of us fighting.
