When they lead with cruel jokes, they do not stay jokes for long. This is really happening.
Certainly I know that. It's precisely why I know how upsetting and disturbing it is for you, because I know that you know that, too. Something like that invokes a fight-or-flight response, but you've already said you can't flee (damn, I remember some things). Fighting is not something that comes naturally to us, though, we're pacifists.

I did say I was trying to take a day off from this for mental health, and I appreciate the reminder. It is *extremely* upsetting. I have rarely been brought to tears by news.
My wife cried when Trump was FIRST elected, and she's more neurotypical than the two of us. She's way past crying now.
She's way past crying now. She's in the need-to-take-a-year-off phase now. I can't talk to her about any current developments without her waving me away. In that situation, I am like you were with that post. I try to talk to her because I need her to acknowledge it, need her to help motivate me to do what comes next, for our survival.

So do I when people do it, but you have to tick the notification box for it and I don't think that's a default. I don't often see other people do it nearly as much as I do.

I meant "it" as in "edit to add missing context" (as I almost did again here), not tick the button to enable notifications of it... though perhaps the latter is also true (in spite of me never seeing them do it).
