The dust has not even settled from the announcement that ICE will be receiving more funding than the entire US prison system, and that a new concentration camp is opening in Florida, and already Trump is announcing he will deport US citizens.

@hosford42 @fightfascism

Take a step back to regain your emotional footing....

@VulcanTourist @fightfascism What do you mean?

When they lead with cruel jokes, they do not stay jokes for long. This is really happening.

@hosford42 @fightfascism

Certainly I know that. It's precisely why I know how upsetting and disturbing it is for you, because I know that you know that, too. Something like that invokes a fight-or-flight response, but you've already said you can't flee (damn, I remember some things). Fighting is not something that comes naturally to us, though, we're pacifists.

@VulcanTourist @fightfascism Oh, I see. I thought you were saying I was being too emotional for *you*, rather than that maybe I was being too emotional for *me*. I did say I was trying to take a day off from this for mental health, and I appreciate the reminder. It is *extremely* upsetting. I have rarely been brought to tears by news.

@hosford42 @fightfascism

My wife cried when Trump was FIRST elected, and she's more neurotypical than the two of us. She's way past crying now.

@hosford42 @fightfascism

She's way past crying now. She's in the need-to-take-a-year-off phase now. I can't talk to her about any current developments without her waving me away. In that situation, I am like you were with that post. I try to talk to her because I need her to acknowledge it, need her to help motivate me to do what comes next, for our survival.

(I need to stop editing comments after the fact, no one ever sees the edits.)

@hosford42

So do I when people do it, but you have to tick the notification box for it and I don't think that's a default. I don't often see other people do it nearly as much as I do.

@hosford42

> I don't often see other people do it...

I meant "it" as in "edit to add missing context" (as I almost did again here), not tick the button to enable notifications of it... though perhaps the latter is also true (in spite of me never seeing them do it).

@hosford42 @fightfascism @StillIRise1963

This woman is a psychopath. 65 million.

And, I suspect sheโ€™s not alone in her feelings.

How did these people get to be such utterly sick fucks?

@hosford42 @fightfascism
I guarantee plenty of those 65 million have had family in this country (and before it ever was a concept) long before hers ever showed up to lord over everyone. Where is this conservative cunt's male guardian? She needs more supervision and perhaps some time in a room that locks from the outside like supply side God intended.
@hosford42 @fightfascism My father was a child when the fascists launched the failed coup that started the Spanish Civil War. The fascists had been <years> using that kind of rhetoric. My father spent years of his life in a refugee concentration camp in Southern France. To me the lesson is clear: when the fascists start to talk like that, do unto them before they do unto thee.
@Illuminatus @hosford42 @fightfascism I lived in Barcelona as a kid in the early 1970's - it's a very different place now!

@hosford42 yeh, they were saying this before the election, but those of us who know history and the coded language Nazis use, were ignored.

They don't need to use the coded language now as they're in power.

Americans have no one to blame but themselves, Germans understood this only after the fall of Berlin

@sortius Blame is irrelevant right now. We need to focus on WTF we are going to *do* about it. Blame can be sorted out when the crisis is over.

@hosford42 sorry, but I'm not American, so to the rest of the world, this is watching Hitler rise while the population ignores what they need to do. Blame is all we have right now, as we've lived under American hegemony for our entire lives.

I've been saying for months, before he was even inaugurated, you have three choices to remain "free" as a citizen of a fascist state: collaborator, partisan, or refugee

@sortius But what *do* we do? We aren't ignoring it. At least I'm not, and most of the others here aren't. The problem is, what actions do we even take to stop it? The nation is like a runaway train, and all I know to do is get out and push. One person taking a stand alone ends up a smear on the tracks. So, I've been trying to drum up support for more collective, practical action.

That's why I created this message group:

@fightfascism
#FightFascism

If you have concrete, actionable ideas, please share them.

@hosford42 @sortius @fightfascism

the only thing I can think off is strikes and/or actions that have an economical impact.

they still need the country to run properly to carry out their odious plan. (gas, food)

money is worthless if you cannot buy anything with it.

I do not have the answer, but this is the path I would explore

@tseitr @sortius@infosec.exchange @fightfascism Thanks!

@hosford42

Read up on what the Irish did.

Organize.
Build bridges to the rural poor that just now realize they were used to harm themselves.
And then: general strikes. Hit them in the wallet.

@sortius @fightfascism

Irish soviets - Wikipedia

@hosford42 @fightfascism bragging about feeding 65 million people to alligators, thatโ€™s really something.

How about you first, psycho?

@gwaldby I added a Spanish translation, but I had to use a machine translator. Hopefully it gets the point across effectively

@hosford42 @fightfascism

National strike. I can't repeat it enough. I've been screaming this since Bush v Gore. Withhold your labor and they will take you seriously. Keep slaving for them and they won't give af.

@Uair @hosford42 @fightfascism what do I do in the situation where I have no bargaining power over an employer? I don't even have a job right now
@tkk13909 @Uair @fightfascism Just do your best, whatever form that may take. You still acquire food and other things in some way, right? Do you have any say over where/how the money gets spent? If so, you can keep it out of the hands of the billionaires who funded this dictator.

@tkk13909 @hosford42 @fightfascism

You're already on strike.

Move to a blue state like Minnesota and live on social services.

I'm capable of extraordinary things, but not allowed to do so, so I live on less than the poverty line. Welcome to America. We destroy our best and brightest. How else do you think we could create a population that would elect trump twice?

@Uair @hosford42 @fightfascism

Withhold labor, sounds like our future. No more factories. No more office cubicles. People will die.

It isn't a general strike unless almost everyone participates. The MAGAs won't, obviously.

@Uair @hosford42 @fightfascism

@andytiedye @Uair @fightfascism We will just have to do our best, then. We can't let the perfect be the enemy of the good, not in these dire circumstances.
@andytiedye I don't think that MAGA, the people, are as die-hard on party line as their members of Congress. Pretty sure many of them will lose Medicaid, or have lost their governmental, production, or even scientific jobs because of the current administration's policies; or they know and like people who will/have. Many also dislike the possibility of a new war
@Uair @hosford42 @fightfascism
@hosford42 I just read these news on a Canadian news outlet and I donโ€™t know what to say.
@adelinej Something along the lines of, "It was nice knowing you," seems appropriate. :'((((((

@hosford42 I was born in France. My first thought reading the news from your country since 6 months are always based on my education and culture, but I know that it canโ€™t be applied to yours.

But Iโ€™m really hoping that his terrible law will initiate a national movement of resistance (maybe not the best word, itโ€™s an allusion to the French Resistance during WWII, my uncle was a member of the Maquis). And/or a general strike.

@adelinej I think the word is the right one. It's exactly what we need.
@hosford42 Reading what will be the consequences of this law are terrifying, and I canโ€™t get my head around that they are going to do this to their compatriots and that there are not riots in the streets. ๐Ÿคฏ
@adelinej There need to be riots in the streets
@hosford42 @fightfascism I absolutely refuse to be afraid. I am angry. A cold, fierce anger, welling up from my Viking ancestors.

@c_merriweather @fightfascism I am scared to death. But I learned something from my grandpa, who helped fight the fascist fucks the last time around: Courage isn't a lack of fear. Courage is being afraid and doing what needs to be done anyway.

#FuckYouFascists

@hosford42 oh I've been trembling in fear, but the fight, flight, and freeze responses have shifted to fight at this point because I'm standing my ground!!!

I was anxious and frozen and that's turned into rage ready to channel into actions for "justice for all"
