Don't call Trump's new prison in the Everglades Alligator Alcatraz. Call it what it really is, Alligator Auschwitz.
@amerpie Around 1.1 million people died in Auschwitz. Horrendous though this camp is, the comparison is inappropriate. @auschwitzmuseum
@bodhipaksa @amerpie @auschwitzmuseum Auschwitz operated from May 1940 to January 1945. There's a lot of time for that comparison to hold.

@bodhipaksa @amerpie @auschwitzmuseum I find your tone policing highly inappropriate when high profile right wing influencers are currently suggesting that all 65 million Latinos in the US should be fed to alligators: https://hachyderm.io/@inthehands/114786207873038059

We're literally living the "first they came for" poem, and people are shaming each other for speaking out. I hate this timeline.

This is a clear and explicit endorsement of the mass murder of an entire identity group in the US. And yes, obviously she is “joking.” Of course she is “joking.” But with quotation marks. She is not joking.

@HunterZ You've essentially just restated something that I posted yesterday. https://mastodon.scot/@bodhipaksa/114786071382444698

I don't consider what I did as "tone-policing." It's a grave thing to make comparisons to Auschwitz. It's certainly seems that Loomer hopes that this Florida camp will become an Auschwitz, or indeed something worse, given the numbers she stated. But in Auschwitz 1.1M people *actually* died. You can't call a place a new Auschwitz just because it's cruel or because people might die there.

Bodhipaksa (@[email protected])

Attached: 1 image Laura Loomer is an advisor to Trump, and she's quite clear that what's going on is not "deporting criminal aliens" but the ethnic cleansing of all 65 million Latinos in the US. In fact she's pretty clear she wants this to be the genocide of the US Latino population. I'm not sure many people recognize we're already a few lines into the "first they came for the..." poem. But we are.

mastodon.scot

@bodhipaksa @HunterZ Oh look, another "'Never Again' means that every other genocide is lesser in comparison and therefor not worth talking about" argument.

Or, more accurately, "call us when you top 6 million bodies."

This line of thinking is active enabling of genocide.

@dresstokilt @HunterZ You're fond of your straw men, eh?
@bodhipaksa @amerpie @auschwitzmuseum were you expecting them to murder 1.1M people in a week?
@dresstokilt @amerpie @auschwitzmuseum So, every prison is an "Auschwitz" because it could potentially be used as a murder camp.
@bodhipaksa @amerpie @auschwitzmuseum how many prisons come with a tacit endorsement from a close presidential advisor that it should be used for a genocide 10x worse than the Holocaust? Hmm?

@dresstokilt @amerpie @auschwitzmuseum Yes, Loomer wished that 65M people would be eaten by alligators. I don't think that means that the Trump administration plans to feed 65M people to alligators. Loomer was, I assume, being outrageous in order to "own the libs" and throw red meat out to the MAGA base.

The US is certainly covering a lot of the same territory as the early days of the 3rd Reich. That still doesn't make Auschwitz a good comparison. Dachau, perhaps, based on Trump's intentions.

@bodhipaksa @amerpie @auschwitzmuseum I applaud you for figuring out cryogenic technology and freezing yourself sometime before November of last year and just now waking up.

I assume that's why you would say something so ridiculously naive when all evidence we have right now is that Trump is powering headlong through the 1933 playbook.

When an advisior to a president who has already enacted racist and genocidal policies actively calls for the complete eradication of a group, YOU LISTEN.

@[email protected] @amerpie @auschwitzmuseum

If you can't have a discussion with someone without insulting them, you're revealing that you don't have a standpoint you can defend. You've stopped discussing and started ad hominem attacks. Which means it's pointless talking with you.

Since you're not someone who it's worth time talking to, buh-bye.

@bodhipaksa @amerpie @auschwitzmuseum If that's what you consider ad honinem then I'm glad to have given you the absolute softest introduction to the Internet anyone will ever experience.

But anyway you're being dangerously blase aboit Loomer's remarks to the point that I'm starting to assume malice.

@amerpie you know what's offensive? Those watching this come together and saying "they haven't killed anyone there *yet* comparing to Auschwitz is offensive!"

How long do you wait before sounding the alarm? The disappearances, the camps being built, the opposition/resistance being threatened…

"They're just building showers, it's offensive to compare."

"They're just delivering gas canisters, don't be offensive"

@ottaross @amerpie I mean, sounding the alarm about Auschwitch happened and didn't amount to much, so it might be past the time for that, too.

Question might be what the stage after that actually is.

@amerpie @holytoastr

No. Don't do that. That is wrong. It’s not Auschwitz. Even if it's a horrible prison and place, it's not a factory to exterminate millions of humans on an industrial scale.

By calling it “Auschwitz”, you both trivialize and cover up the industrial murder of over a million people that happened at Auschwitz in the 20th century.

@ingemar @amerpie @holytoastr this is exactly what they want to do. There out there calling for all 65 million Latinos in the US to be fed to alligators. Please stop tone policing.

@amerpie In the absence of gas chambers? Really? If millions of Americans had died in a global conflict it seems to me that more would be alert to the dangers of fascism and a bit less glib. Well intended, I'm sure, but a misfire.

@amerpie
So true.
