This kind of sloppiness at Apple doesn’t lead me to believe they can do well on the big things now, either. A lack of attention to detail and a lack of follow-through.
@glennf Goddamn, that's pretty basic stuff !
@glennf
Is it "just" a problem with case sensitivity in search, or does it also fail when the search case actually matches the entry?
@glennf Have been noticing more problems in recent years.
@glennf Right after seeing this, I checked the Microsoft Teams iOS app, and saw that this still is unchanged, after being like this for months.
@glennf My Apple Watch will periodically fail to unlock my Mac. I have to go into those settings, un-toggle and re-toggle (with passcode) to get it to work again. It may coincide with a software update but if it does then the toggle should be off.
@DanMorgan Coincidentally writing up a Six Colors column about this right now. I don’t have any great solutions—it’s an interestingly secure but fragile setup Apple is using.
@glennf In Beta 2 my heart rate zone alerts aren’t working either. I’m about to file feedback on that one.
@glennf This one has been broken since it was first introduced—whenever I pause my rings for the day, the folllowing day I don’t get stand alerts until I reboot the phone and watch. I need to make a copy of my Feedback and (re)submit it every new beta I guess
@glennf @DanMorgan One extra fun data point on this issue: unlocking with Watch was very spotty for me a few years ago, to the point that I spent time with Apple engineers on the phone trying to figure out what the problem was. Turns out that a couple Lexar USB devices (possibly just the 2-port USB hub from their older Pro Workflow line) was somehow blocking Unlock with Apple Watch.
@glennf
I cannot understand how search in System Settings—the only way to use it currently afforded by its design—has been nonfunctional since the beginning. It’s not even a dynamic index.
I think Apple is a company which is bad at design, UI and software QA now, and it’s time I stopped being surprised by each new instance of it.

@glennf I have found search in Settings (macOS and iOS) basically useless for a couple of years now because I never know if it’s going to be a complete waste of time by not finding what I know is there.

Made worse by supporting Apple devices not being my job for 7 years now, so I’m not familiar enough with the locations any more so I have tried to rely on search when helping friends over the phone.

And even worse by the re-locating of so many settings panes.

So my experiences are now the same as the vast majority of users.

“How are ordinary people meant to work this out if you can’t?” Has been a not too uncommon refrain.
