@cascheranno @kibcol1049 In my fairly recent youth, I rode motorbikes for around 20 years. In those days, a Volvo was your enemy as they drove like idiots, didn't look, stop, wait etc.
These days, Volvo are fine, but German car drivers seem to have taken over the idiocy. A friend of ours always shouts "Don't block the road when you crash!" As they fly past in all the wrong places!
@stevewfolds
I was lucky or skilled. Maybe both. I never had an accident on my bikes.
I started with a TL125 in 1977, a 250 Super Dream, CX500, a CBR600 which got nicked along with the lock and alarm, and a VFR750, which I traded in for a wife in 1997!
@kibcol1049
I was always very aware of that fact.
@stevewfolds
Very true, can you imagine a big company doing something like that these days?
I asked a motorcyclist friend : do you know know any motorcyclists who haven't had at least one near death incident.
Long pause.
No.
@BenAveling @stevewfolds @kibcol1049 @NormanDunbar @cascheranno
Can't ask the dead ones.
I work with people who ride. Fatalism is part of the package.
I know people who have died, as well. I think the surviving spouses and kids know my response is not meant in a humorous or disrespectful way.
It's just the truth.
@Ultraverified @BenAveling Met a
Police chief who died being hit by a deer, no helmet*. Had a neighbor with a TBI from a deer jumping on him as well, no helmet and 3 girls in grade school.

That's only because necromancy is illegal.
@stevewfolds
They were lucky. Some people get their hands "degloved" when their airbags go off!
I never had "gravel rash" on my bikes, due to not falling off, but I've seen it in others, thoroughly unrecommended!
@kibcol1049
Agreed. I was taught defensive driving plus, I worked in a bike shop (Honda) and taught many a customer how to ride. As far as I'm aware, at least while I still worked on bikes, I never lost a customer!
Was it me or was everyone just lucky? Who knows.
