I have been testing the new 25.06 update for PostmarketOS on my OnePlus 6T and I must say the team has done an amazing work! Camera, GPS, Android apps and general system works well and is now, in my opinion daily driveable. Everything I personally wanted!

Thank you, @[email protected]! 🥳🤯

@ppulfer i guess no chance for anything like this to run on an iphone? 😭
@richardwonka, I'm afraid not. I bought this phone second hand for cheap just to follow the development. Have a look at https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Devices#Community, maybe you find one compatible to play with.

@richardwonka @ppulfer Modern iPhones have Fort Knox levels of security. If the iPhone's equivalent of IME detects that the OS has a different signature than the one it has in memory, then it'll turn the device into a brick.
@dasmatus
Well, that’s an interesting insight. … And the more reason for me to look for an alternative.
@ppulfer
Thats awesome! :) i need to cram out my op6 out and do an update to get up to speed.
@ppulfer hello, great written about, how to connect phone and computer, as Gnome Mobile did not allow me to connect and download files to the phone.
@mrakmm, you can share files from PC to the Linux Phone with this app: https://flathub.org/apps/app.drey.Warp

@ppulfer Google Play... what did I miss... is there an emulator available or something?

@mistersixt, you would be installing Waydroid with `sudo apk install waydroid`, which is a container to run Android seamlessly.

@ppulfer Do calls (with or without VoLTE) and SMS work? Is there user-facing documentation/FAQs for how Android app running works? I'm particularly interested in how much you can isolate/sandbox apps from each other and the system, access & own their local data, etc.
@dalias, I've only tested normal calls, so unsure. Android apps work via Waydroid. Doc: https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Waydroid
Waydroid - postmarketOS Wiki

@ppulfer @dalias Hello, thanks for the sharing. Regarding the camera, does it autofocus ? I have an OP6 running edge, but autofocus does not work, and the selfie camera is unusable (red, not focused, etc.).
@MonetPhil @dalias, same experience tbh. Autofocus is not working and selfie camera is horrible quality atm.

@dalias @ppulfer VoLTE is being worked on, sms/mms works, rcs doesn't.

Android apps are pretty much limited to waydroid which gives you one android subsystem, you can do whatever you want with it but it's just a regular lineage os image.

there's also android translation layer but it's only useful for some apps right now

@ashley @dalias @ppulfer Hello. Can it work with two SIM cards?
@ganch @ashley @dalias, I have not tested that but I would imagine not. Maybe someone can pitch in that has tried or confirmed.
@ppulfer the postmarket devices table says it supports camera partially. what's missing?
@mattesilver, camera works but quality is not that great due to missing optimizations. I'm sure people will work on that.

@ppulfer @mattesilver

My 6T is not @ home currently so cannot test myself. By "not that great" we mean there is some green blurry blob of picture, or that there is an useable photo but not best tier?

@[email protected] how is battery life compared with #Android
@ppulfer Do calls work properly? What about waking up from suspend mode in case of an incoming call?
@DF5RE, call quality was good. I have not tested yet receiving a call while suspended but I'll give it a try.
@ppulfer This is really great news! :-)
@ppulfer I've updated my OP6T too now. I face the problem that gnome-shell uses 100% CPU and the device gets very hot. Do you face the same issue?
@DF5RE, I'm afraid not. If you use the system monitor, does it tell you what the CPU is being used for?
@ppulfer The process is gnome-shell but I do not know why it needs so much CPU. I guess I need to dig deeper into it. You're also running GNOME Mobile Shell, correct?
@ppulfer sooooo should I get a 6t to tinker with, that’s what you’re saying?
@ppulfer
How is Bluetooth, Camera, etc functionality in your Android layer (Waydroid?), is it still isolated only to the Linux desktop or can you access within Android apps simultaneously?
@magic_ian, camera and bluetooth within Waydroid are not working out of the box. I've seen people working around with passing trough GPS from device to Waydroid, so maybe there is or will be both of these passed trough as well?
@ppulfer Hello, I tried a new install just 2 weeks on my pinephone and I would to it as my daily driver but again SMS text messages inbound and outbound were failing then working with and without an error message. More so the outbound sending failed most of the time with error failure to send. What is your success rate for SMS text on the oneplus device, because I also own the same model?
@ppulfer Have you tried some bank app on PmOs? Is it possible to run it?

@xorgrox, I have not tried yet as banks in Ireland are 10y behind and you can do very little with.

Android apps run inside a container with LineageOS, which has no root access by default. I've read somewhere that many banking apps work, once you certify the container with Google. I'm sure you can find amany guides by searching. I think I may start to contribute to the project docs for these little things.

@ppulfer How's the battery life on it?
@ppulfer Does snap-apps and appimages work now that systemd is implemented?
@stovis, I'm afraid I have not tested those. Flatpak did though.
@ppulfer I probably should switch from Edge to Stable now. At least on my main OnePlus 6, not the secondary one I use for tests.
@ppulfer that's my phone model! I think I'm going to stick to LineageOS because I'm not sure it will fully be replaced by PostMarketOS but I am keeping an eye on PMOS for the future and I'm glad it went this far already!
@ppulfer I should try it on my 6t again at some point, tho last time I tried I couldn't get gps working no matter what I tried. have they changed anything to make that easier to get working?
@ppulfer omg omg omg I am typing on a oneplus 6t right now, so does waydroid work well on it too? then I could really switch over
@technobaboo, it is daily driveable for me, but your requirements may be different. It may require a but of tweaking and command line to get it working well. What I recommend is have an Android backup or be ready to switch back to Android if it does not fit your needs
Waydroid works well on NixOS, though I have to say I haven't done all the work necessary to get the "distribution" of mobile apps working as well as pictured above yet
@matthewcroughan @ppulfer oh hi! can nixos on mobile run phosh as well as pictured? just overall wanting to make this phone run well and escape the horrifying doom of material expressive that's releasing in a bit
It can run phosh yeah, it's just a piece of software like any other
@matthewcroughan @ppulfer I didn't know if it was packaged well yet
oh yeah ir is packaged and there is a module
@ppulfer Congratulations to the developers, this is a huge achievements. So this is one of the first phones with working camera also, right?
@aboveall, for PostmarketOS, yes. At least first of very popular ones.
