My belief is that using separate language allows for separate behavior.

If I speak a corporate language instead of regular-person language, I behave in corporate ways instead of regular-person ways.

Which means I’d accept things as corporate person that regular-person me would not accept.

So let’s not use corporate words like “learnings,” even — or especially when — at work.

@brentsimmons I’m glad to see we’re in synergy
@mwyman @brentsimmons Talk to me when we can monetize our assets
@wiredfire @brentsimmons we’ve got to leverage our core competencies: quoting Weird Al lyrics

@brentsimmons that’s 100% the idea of newspeak from 1984.

and it’s double plus ungood.

2 + 2 = 5

@brentsimmons I still have no idea what the word “lessons” did to these people to make them refuse to use it.
@jeff @brentsimmons The worst is ‘ask’ as a noun.
@brentsimmons Oooo… yea, let's put a pin in that and put it in the parking lot so we can circle back on that when appropriate.

@brentsimmons I always work blue. It might have ratfucked me but

@brentsimmons @jeff I gently but pointedly suggested to someone earlier that they might consider calling people “people”. Rather than “resources”.

@brentsimmons I'm grateful that I appear to mostly get away with being regular me with my regular language at work. I do believe that had been key in my ability to cut through, and call out, people's bullshit that is harmful to both individuals and the actual business as a whole.

It does, however, mean Zoom calls can get a little sweary😂

@brentsimmons You can only have “learnings” when you have attended all your “trainings”.
@brentsimmons Learnings (sic) are what we get when we fail to listen to lessons.
@brentsimmons It’s also the first time they used “machine” to refer to a computer.
It used to be a no no.
