Countdown to the US making this life saving drug $25,000/dose or banning it outright.
@flexghost And lots of US patients buying it from Mexico as soon as it's available.

@flexghost the #USA is likely gonna ban any #mRNA #vaccines soon, so yeah, they'll likely paywall it for like $2,5M and require RFK Jr. himself to personally sign a permit to be allowed to get treatment!

#sarcasm #USpol #healthcare #RFKjr #AntiVaxxers #AntiVax

@flexghost “won’t SOMEBODY spare a thought for the shareholders impacted by this?!?” (I feel like the /s should be obvious, but there I am adding it anyway)
@pork_soda trust me you need it 😂
‘HIV-ending’ drug could be made for just $25 per patient a year, say researchers

As regulator prepares to approve Lenacapavir in the US, campaigners are urging the manufacturer, Gilead, to make it ‘available and affordable for all who need it’

The Guardian

@flexghost This article explains it was approved in the EU, Canada and the USA in 2022:

The drug does not end HIV, but we should all have realized that from the quotes around "HIV-ending" in the clickbait title.

Lenacapavir - Wikipedia

@dl2jml

From the Wikipedia article (a source I do not endorse)

Lenacapavir was approved in 2022 for treatment of drug-resistant HIV, not prevention. The “HIV-ending” headlines refer to its 2025 FDA approval as twice-yearly PrEP (Yeztugo).

It doesn’t cure HIV but it’s a powerful tool for reducing transmission.

@flexghost Life is more complicated than that, but when people from the US complain about healthcare I want to tell them to come to Brazil. Rich countries would probably be even better, but Brazil would already be an improvement in many aspects

@flexghost we could be curing deadly diseases, instead we’re resuming use of asbestos

@ShadSterling asbestos is delicious

@flexghost @ShadSterling

And fun to sprinkle from the box on the Christmas tree as snow. Imagine snow on a tree in S Florida! Luckily we were Jewish so only the neighbors got to do that.

@flexghost creating/discovering new drugs and producing existing drugs need to be separated. You're either in one business or the other. Not both.
