Do any #linux wizards know why the control key is the preferred modifier for applications? I think the super key is the superior one, and it's so difficult to change this behaviour in a lot of apps.
@legoraft Not sure what exactly you mean. Usually the super key is for your Window manager / Desktop Environment / Operating System layer. Personally when I press the super key I am trying to manipulate a window not the application itself.
Could you give some examples?

@Xionical I prefer using the super or alt key within applications as well, as it's a bit more ergonomic to press. It's just annoying that you often can't change the default modifier within a lot of application's settings.

It could be that I'm just weird as I'm running a mac as well as a pc as my daily driver.

@legoraft The control key has been on keyboards for more than a few decades.

The "Super" aka Windows key is a much newer Microsoft thing, just like the AI key that Microsoft compels vendors to put on hardware that ships with pre-installed Windows.

@Corb_The_Lesser so control is just the standard and super is the weird thing. Now I finally understand why that is, still sucks that adjusting modifier keys is so difficult though.
