They really ticked so many boxes with visionOS 26, from iPhone and gamepad passthrough to saving the position of all your apps between reboots, to hand controllers, stylus, and even tethering to your Mac for PC-based VR and AR using all of your available desktop graphical horsepower. And it's just a new window scene type you can add to your Mac app, to then show content on Vision Pro.

A potential Flight Simulator 2024 on Vision Pro is now several steps closer.

If Apple can just get the deals done to bring Netflix and YouTube to Vision Pro, and /finish recompiling its own damn first-party apps for the headset/, the second-generation Vision Pro is going to be a *much* more compelling prospect
@stroughtonsmith Not sure what Netflix or recompiling apps has to do with a second generation device. Seems like things they could do for this generation. But yes, strictly speaking, having more to do on the device than, checks notes, nothing, would make it more compelling. I definitely agree with that prediction.
@stroughtonsmith yeah, I’d bet it ships with OS27 as well, so getting another batch of refinements and maybe those first party apps

@stroughtonsmith I suspect Google is waiting to make sure its Samsung/Android XR has the best YouTube experience.

Not sure about Netflix.

But I agree, the visionOS tooling, basic functionality (widgets), expanded video content options (Blackmagic camera, GoPro, Canon), personas, shared experiences... are all aligning to make a newer, lower-cost headset a compelling choice for a wider audience.

@stroughtonsmith Making good with Epic for much more feature complete Unreal Engine support probably wouldn’t hurt either…
@stroughtonsmith If you haven't tried Supercut give it a try
@stroughtonsmith and I really hope the 2nd gen will be A LOT more comfortable to wear.
@stroughtonsmith Wait, the AVP can be used for PC gaming now? (w/ vOS 26 I mean)
@stroughtonsmith with macOS spatial rendering, I wonder if StreamVR will eventually come to the Mac+Vision

@stroughtonsmith When I played FS2020 on the Vision Pro a while back, it worked well enough with passthrough if you put your flight stick in the right spot. It’s been a while so I should try it out again.
