Many of the issues outlined in this talk by @pluralistic on enshittified search are exactly why Kagi was founded. Search engines don't have to prioritize ads and profit over users. Kagi is proof that search can be different: delivering clean, relevant results free from ads and surveillance:

@kagihq I would be much more inclined to sign up if you offered a package with NO AI.

It's not a feature. Your customers don't want it.

@simon_brooke @kagihq the LLM integrations are all optional. A normal search doesn't involve any LLM generated stuff at all. You have to actively invoke the summarizer or assistant if you want it (the summarizer and the quick answers are actually quite good; every point they add is backed by a reference to the source). Translate obviously also uses LLMs, but I think that is hardly a problem... stuff like that is what LLMs were made for (and again: you don't have to use Translate at all).

@simon_brooke @kagihq if you sign up for the plain search engine you only get some basic LLMs that you don't have to use (and if you don't, their companies don't get any money).

I have to say that Kagi Assistant is great though. Customers do want it.
