New month, new #BattleTech #MiniaturePainting project: an Overlord-C DropShip by #IronWindMetals.

I had already bathed it and the landing struts, yesterday I sanded the mold lines off the legs and their armoured doors. In addition I primed the space-worthy FabergΓ© egg and that's all I had time for. Maybe I get to prime the six legs tomorrow and start on some two, three greys on the hull.

It'll get some jade-green highlights for reasons. Maybe self-made stencils too. Maybe. #WIP

Three different greys on the DropShip, trying to get some panel variety with the airbrush. It's not perfect, but maybe it can be worked on. Some or most non-panel bits may end up being done in my "bare metal" dark grey. And in case you didn't guess, I'm Indiana Jonesing this whole thing πŸ€“

The landing thingies need more trimming before they'll sit flush in those slots of theirs.

Landing struts in and initialized, looks much more like a real DropShip already. I only had a bit of time again today, so just one of the things got painted dark grey (RLM 66) for the upcoming bare metal look.

All those cables/hoses in the mechanicals, three per piece, will be probably an overall mix of reds, greens, blues and rubber grey for little variety πŸ€”

#BattleTech #MiniaturePainting #WIP

#MiniaturePainting #WIP I spent over two more hours on the bare metals, highlights, cables/hoses (rubber grey, red, yellow, green, blue) and the armour panels for the landing struts. Also, but not pictured, the engine nozzles in tan earth like on jets planes.

I think I'll do the gun turret bits that are now light/medium grey in jade green next. And then... I want to make a CJF stencil, but am unsure of my P("success") function's return value πŸ˜…

#BattleTech

I downscaled some roundels in Krita and printed some out on A4s. The Gamma Galaxy (30mm) thing might work with just two pieces, and I'll attempt to do the CJF one (35mm) in as few and simple ones as possible.

This'll be slow because I want to let the layers cure properly, whenever I get to start airbrushing. Hopefully it won't be an unmitigated disaster like using these and a paintbrush once was πŸ˜…

After a weekend cheering for the firstborn's basketball team in Tallinn, minor progress on the DropShip.

I painted the planet's surface with Stonewall Grey, then an upper corner with Dead White.

For the Clan buckle I mixed some red and blue, which could've been redder but it worked well enough.

Next time the next layers. This is going better than I expected so far πŸ˜…

More stenciling, masking, a couple of silly puffs of flat black from the airbrush, followed by a bit of sponging of jade green got me this far. The Gamma Galaxy bird's green leaked a bit but it's an easy fix with one grey or another.

I think these worked pretty nicely, now I'll just do the stencils for position marking to get the beaks, claws and the katana in place. Plus the red edges on the Clan emblem. Then it's oil paint time already πŸŽ‰

#BatteTech #MiniaturePainting #WIP

And a bit more excited painting to get the smaller details in: the aforementioned beaks, talons, and sword. The katana blade has the only actual metallics, gunmetal and steel, in the whole show.

Yep, I got quite excited with this, how could you tell? πŸ˜‹

#ScaleModeling #BattleTech #WIP

Busy weekend with the school semester ending and all, I touched up the Clan insignia and just brushed a layer of gloss varnish all over. Landing struts excluded.

Doing the pin washing with Abteilung oils will be a slow and drawn process at this rate πŸ˜… But I'm going to have lots of fun meanwhile, that is certain.

#BattleTech #MiniaturePainting #WIP

This evening's 45mins of hobby time revolved around pin washing with Abteilung's Sepia, and cleaning excesses. On this mini the earlier gloss varnish (or clear coat, whichever) made a huge difference for the better.

Now the thing is drying in the sauna, hopefully half-safe from dust. Maybe I have to give it more than 24h before a matt varnish. The weapons aren't 100% accurate, but I don't mind that much.

#BattleTech #MiniaturePainting #WIP #OilPaints

Today I started applying some AK Interactive's super matt varnish on future handholds, then I painted the weapon ports with flat black.

I had a messy list of a plan for the 32 weapons (sans LRMs) and 30 visible hardpoints. I decided to skip an ER Large Laser and a Large Pulse Laser, no one could tell 'cause I paint them the exact same way πŸ˜…

Finally more ultra matt, with patching expected in the near future. Maybe some chips and scorchmarks too?

#BattleTech #MiniaturePainting #jeweling #WIP

Maybe I'm about done now, unless I come up with some little tweak(s) still. After these photos I applied more matt varnish on the remaining glossy spots.

I did some hand-painted Autocannon hits and laser scorches, as well as sponged chips. For the light chips I used light grey, and for the deeper parts some dark grey with a drop of red. Today I drybrushed some black-tinted dark grey for soot and scorchmarks. With that I also shadowed the Gamma Galaxy's planet.

Done, photographed, edited: CJF Quatrefoil, in my universe an Overlord-C as opposed to what Sarna has agreed to (either an old Overlord or maybe a Command variant). Screw that, I went with the -C because I felt like it :D

Tons of fun was had, even if it sounded like a technically boring paintjob of greys. I also went with a grey as that's what the mission loading screen in Mechwarrior II from my youth had, while Camospecs says fleet assets are green.
