Square (https://squareup.com) offers very similar services to Stripe, including collecting tap-to-pay with your phone. They also have some backoffice stuff like inventory management, but that's not something I need so I don't know how it compares.
Account setup was all pretty painless.

Nothing in my experience stood out as a red flag. Way way back they were right bastards to get software certified with, but as far a KYC and data protection they are okay.
