Many countries celebrate when their countries were liberated from the Nazis. In Denmark for instance, we celebrate May 5.
But World War II officially ended on September 2, 1945, with Japanese foreign affairs minister Mamoru Shigemitsu signing the Japanese Instrument of Surrender aboard the USS Missouri in the presence of US General Sutherland (picture 1).
However, Trump thinks that because countries in Europe celebrate dates in May, that must be when the entire World War II ended (picture 2).
Inspired by Putin's festivities, I assume.

@randahl It's particularly odd coming from someone in the US, which had a major role in both theatres; for Americans, the war in the Pacific was huge. It was, after all, the attack on Pearl Harbor that brought us into the war.
But T-ball is extremely ignorant, about almost everything. Subjects like history, even recent history, are murky to him. Moreover, he doesn't actually care. He's focused almost entirely on his own interests.
@randahl for us it was 27th of April, not that it's celebrated, but it's a day to celebrate the war veterans from the Winter/Continual/Lapland wars.
@randahl Here (Nfld.), it is July 1st, and it was for mourning - not celebration. The date is from the start of the Somme offensive, a day of significant local loss, and marked with the little 'forget me nots' flowers, similar to poppies on Nov.11.
It is also Canada day, so I guess there are celebrations, but not in the morning - it is first to the memorials.

That may not be the case in the future, as it looks like a Police State is forming within #Oligarchy #Theocracy government the #USA currently lives in.
Until then, "we" have the freedom to celebrate or not celebrate this remembrance day.
Also, remember, #BodyAutonomy was a thing until the citizens of the US lost that in 2025.
The only thing that keeps me from getting too caught up in all of this immaturity is the quiet hope that the date this finally ends will become an epic global holiday we can all enjoy together.
