I've been updating a thread with information about Rodney Hinton and his son Ryan who was killed by police.
I've been updating a thread with information about Rodney Hinton and his son Ryan who was killed by police.
Attached: 1 video Black people have been talking about the shooting death of a Black teenager, Ryan Hinton, who was shot while running from police. Cops had conflicting stories one said they saw him with a gun another said he saw him drop the gun then run. Either way the kid was killed Over the weekend the teenager's father is alleged to have killed another police officer by running them over with a car in retaliation for the death of his son. #Cincinnati #ACAB #RyanHinton #RodneyHinton #breaking #blackmastodon
A lot of comments about Ryan Hinton's death being necessary because he may have had a gun.
First off Ryan was of legal age in a state where open carry is LEGAL. If you think Ryan should die because a cop SAW a gun then go change the open carry law.
Anyways, here's two white kids ACTIVELY pointing guns at cops who manage to not kill them.
In Cincinnati, the cops have a well known history of killing unarmed Blacks but arresting alive armed Whites suspects.
Timothy Thomas was unarmed at the time of his death and was only fleeing cops when they killed him. Over the previous 5 years the cops had killed FIFTEEN Black crime suspects in similar situations. Meanwhile the cops killed ZERO white suspects under similar chases, despite the white population and incidents being significantly higher. It did not matter if the White suspects were armed or unarmed. #Cincinnati #ACAB #police #ohio #TimothyThomas #blacklivesmatter
The issue that has really moved a lot of folks like me who used to be distracted by the "why did they have gun?" argument off to fully into the ACAB perspective is that bad cops are so rarely punished.
It can be the most cut and dry case of murder and the cops get off, typically with ZERO jail time or direct economic penalty.
Literally the same one of the US most well covered cases of police murder had this update . . .
Attached: 1 video Update in the Tyre Nichols case, the cops who murdered him have now been acquitted. Exhibit A for why don't I give a singular flying fuck when a cop allegedly becomes road kill. FUCK THE POLICE & PISS ON THEIR GRAVES. https://www.localmemphis.com/article/news/local/memphis-reform-legislative-ex-officers-acquitted-tyre-nichols/522-7566dd42-7d49-4a0a-ba29-1f52592cf78b #TyreNichols #Memphis #TN #ACAB
Next, white people REALLY don't know what the fuck life is like for the majority of Black Americans and poor whites.
Cops profile as a rule all dark Black people and and poor people. If you happen to fit the profile for both then you're going to have WAAY more police contact than average.
Every police stop in the US comes with a literal threat of arbitrary death.
For Philando Castile he was stopped at least 46 times in pretextual stops before his death.
A good friend of mine in high school was stopped at a frequency similar to Philando Castile.
He was one of the biggest nerds in high school, but he was also black and had a cheap car.
He was stopped by cops almost weekly for years. We worried about him constantly.
The police are a deadly threat to me, my friends and my family. And have been my whole life.
Cops harass + kill the wrong people, don't investigate the crimes the community wants help with and frequently are criminals themselves.
I grew up being taught at home a more MLK outlook on things. One know the one: "if Black people strive for Black Excellence, Black Capitalism and Black faces in high places things would be all right. Oh and smile, have a positive attitude!"
My very first police interaction without my parents absolutely shattered this entire outlook. Every year since has only cemented it further. . .
All cops are bastards.
Trying an MLK style "reformist" approach now is about as useful as cleaning up an asbestos infestation by getting all your friends to huff the fumes up with your own lungs and zero PPE.
We're at the phase with police killings where we've got stage 4 cancer and people are certain the problem is that we just need to inhale a little bit more asbestos.
@nullagent Just as an anecdotal example: My ex and I used to share each others' cars. Mine was a newer Honda, hers was an older Volvo.
Neither of us ever got pulled over in the Honda. Both of us got pulled over plenty in the Volvo.
Same people, driving the same way, on the same streets. Only thing different was the perceived value of the cars we were driving...
Oh god old Volvo were like a cop magnet in the north east lmao.
I remember being pulled over with friends in an old Volvo while doing something that might get us in trouble(nothing too serious but we were up to no good and would have easily been caught)... the cop asked how our night was going.
My friend the driver immediately mentions we go to the nearby private university and hands him his student ID... I had never to that point seen a cop leave me alone so fast.
Knew somebody who got pulled over so much they finally spraypainted the words "SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE" on the sides of the car. Which actually reduced the amount they got hassled after that.
@nullagent Autistic people, too, because we "act weird".
Latest example that was in the national news:
https://www.cnn.com/2025/04/12/us/autistic-teen-idaho-police-shooting-dies
Cops shoot first if anything is unfamiliar to them. That means people of other races, ethnicities, income levels, or neurotypes are disproportionately impacted, even if you subtract out the bigotry that so many of them harbor and indoctrinate each other with.
@nullagent I'm white and I got pulled over for the first time ever the other day and I was anxious as all hell. The officer was pleasant *to me* but I couldn't stop thinking about how this could've been a way different experience had I been born a different race.
While I can't truly understand what POC and other groups targetted by cops go through, I am one who tends to believe victims over abusers so I'll take your word for it.
All that is to say: all cops are bastards.
@nullagent Cincinnati Police is my first-hand introduction to "Driving While Black" as a white guy. I used to work as a database admin for a company that was on the edge of Mount Adams (which then was kind of an upscale place, this was 25+ years ago, don't know if that's still the case). The Cincinnati cops liked to hassle our IT operations manager, a Black guy, ex-Marine, extremely good at his job. We even got pulled over once when I was a passenger on our way for some lunch.
Fucking sucks.
